Synergy Modules | Diezel Herbert Preamp
Dual Channel Valve Preamp - Independent Three Band EQ - Separate Mid Cut Controls
The Synergy Diezel Herbert Preamp Module delivers the powerful and articulate tones of the original Diezel Herbert amplifier in a compact, dual-channel tube preamp format. Designed by Peter Diezel, this module offers genuine tube circuitry for authentic response and tonal depth, with a 3-band EQ and independent mid-cut controls on each channel for precise sound shaping. It provides seamless access to everything from clean, dynamic textures to aggressive high-gain tones, making it ideal for a wide range of musical styles. Fully compatible with the Synergy modular ecosystem, it offers professional-grade flexibility for both studio and live use.

The Synergy Diezel Herbert Preamp Module offers guitarists the tonal characteristics of the original Diezel Herbert 180 watt amplifier in a modular format. Originally conceived during the rise of 7- and 8-string guitars, the Herbert design prioritised a tight low-end response and a percussive attack, making it suitable for a wide range of musical styles, from country to heavy, low-tuned genres.
Peter Diezel approached the development of the Herbert with a fresh perspective, aiming to create an amplifier capable of exceptional performance across various sonic territories. The goal was to achieve delicate and dynamic clean tones, detailed and focused crunch sounds, and aggressive, sustaining solo tones without requiring extensive tweaking of the controls. This capability was intended to be present from the outset, with the amplifier delivering these core sounds with the knobs set at their midpoint.
The Synergy module encapsulates this design philosophy in a dual-channel, all-tube preamp. It provides access to the distinctive and powerful guitar tones that have established Diezel as a highly regarded brand in guitar amplification. Crucially, this is not simply an imitation. Peter Diezel himself custom-designed the module, ensuring that it accurately reproduces the authentic character and drive of the original Herbert amplifier.
The module features a two-channel layout, providing versatility for different playing requirements. Each channel is equipped with independent gain and volume controls, allowing for precise level matching and gain staging between rhythm and lead sounds. Furthermore, each channel has its own dedicated 3-band EQ (treble, middle, bass), offering comprehensive tonal shaping possibilities for each channel independently.
A significant feature of the Herbert design, and included in this module, is the mid-cut control. Both the blue (typically rhythm) and red (typically lead) channels have individual mid-cut on/off switches. Additionally, separate level knobs for the mid-cut function on each channel enable users to precisely dial in the desired amount of midrange reduction. This level of control allows for meticulous tailoring of the midrange frequencies, a crucial aspect in achieving distinct lead and rhythm tones and fitting within a band mix.
The Synergy Diezel Herbert Preamp Module is built in the U.S.A. and is designed for easy installation and removal from Synergy preamp docks, offering a convenient way to integrate the Herbert sound into a modular amplifier setup.
