The SYNERGY SYN-20IR is an all-valve amplifier head delivering 20 watts of power. It features a three-channel preamp module platform, enhanced by integrated impulse response (IR) technology. A key advantage of the SYN-20IR is its patented all-valve modular system. This design allows users to quickly and simply exchange preamp modules, providing a continuous expansion of available tones. This flexibility positions the SYN-20IR as a highly adaptable and sonically diverse all-valve amplifier head.
The amplifier comes equipped with a built-in vintage American-style clean channel. This is complemented by two additional channels derived from the user's chosen Synergy preamp module. This configuration results in a three-channel amplifier suitable for a wide range of musical styles and playing scenarios.
Each two-channel, all-valve module within the Synergy system utilises dual 12AX7 valves. These modules are designed to replicate the exact preamp circuitry of the well-known amplifiers they are based upon. In many instances, Synergy modules offer additional features compared to the original amplifiers. The Synergy engineering team collaborates closely with partner brands to ensure that the modules accurately capture the tonal characteristics of their famous amplifier models.
Synergy provides an expanding selection of all-valve modules that emulate legendary amplifier sounds. This includes a variety of tones, from high-gain crunch and AC-style chime to warmer, blooming sounds and signature lead tones. This extensive module library allows the SYN-20IR to offer significant versatility and opportunities for tonal exploration.
The SYN-20IR employs a 20-watt EL84 power section, making it suitable for various environments, including home practice, studio recording, live performances, and rehearsals. The amplifier is equipped with several features designed for contemporary guitarists. These include onboard impulse response (IR) technology with a latency of less than 1 millisecond, selectable Power Amp Structure, a silent playing mode, XLR DI and Headphone outputs, and full MIDI capability.
The SYN-20IR offers unique controls for STRUCTURE and REACTANCE, which allow for the tailoring of the amplifier's all-analogue power section response. The STRUCTURE feature provides three distinct power amplifier configurations and feedback settings that can be assigned to each of the amplifier's channels, significantly altering the overall sound and feel.
The three available Structure modes are: Mode A, which offers balanced negative feedback for a clear and punchy sound; Mode B, a vintage-style phase inverter with relaxed mid frequencies and a bright high end; and Mode C, a modern HiFi-style phase inverter with a low negative feedback resistor, delivering a tight feel with solid low frequencies and a darker high end. The REACTANCE control functions similarly to a presence knob but with a dynamic response and variable phase inverter, simultaneously shaping the middle and treble frequencies. This control aids in fine-tuning the sound to match the chosen module and Structure setting.
A user-friendly 3-button MIDI footswitch is included with the SYN-20IR. This allows users to save and access any combination of channels, amplifier structures, and onboard IRs. This enables seamless switching between different tonal setups with a single footswitch press. The amplifier also supports connection to external MIDI switchers and controllers, providing access to up to 128 user-created presets. The included Synergy Editor Software simplifies the process of assigning and organising these presets.
The SYN-20IR incorporates advanced digital technology for its four onboard impulse responses (IR) and power amplifier simulation. Utilising a high-performance 500 MHz ARM DSP processor, it delivers professionally captured IRs with a latency of under 1 millisecond. Users can also add and manage their own IR library, in addition to the 13 included IRs, using the free Synergy Editor software.
The Synergy Editor Software enhances the functionality of the SYN-20IR. Connecting via a standard USB jack, it allows users to easily assign different IRs and Structure settings for the amplifier and module channels, load and organise IRs, save up to 128 MIDI presets, and adjust the power-amp simulation through assignable Low-Pass and Low Pass filtering. The software features a streamlined and intuitive interface.
Directly from the amplifier's front panel, users can assign one of four impulse responses (IRs) and one of three POWER STRUCTURES to each of the three channels. These settings can be easily managed and saved to the included 3-button MIDI footswitch.
The SYN-20IR facilitates seamless operation without the need for a physical speaker cabinet. Its digital engine, dedicated to the onboard impulse responses (IR) and power amp simulation, ensures accurate and natural sound reproduction with under 1ms of latency.
The SYN-20IR features universal voltage compatibility via a selector switch on the rear panel. This allows for operation in different countries without the need for re-biasing or voltage transformers, simplifying use when travelling.
With its 20-watt EL84 power section, the SYN-20IR aims to provide an optimal balance of power and portability for working guitarists. Its compact size and light weight make it easy to transport, while its robust steel construction ensures durability for consistent performance.
