Founded in 1887 by Torakusu Yamaha, the company initially named Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd ('Musical Instruments of Japan'), has a long history of quality instrument production. The reintroduction of the Red Label invokes this legacy, offering a contemporary Folk Guitar that embodies over fifty years of Japanese innovation and craftsmanship.
The FSX3 retains the original FG headstock shape, featuring Yamaha's iconic Tuning Fork logo. The traditional truss rod cover is marked with "Since 1966" to honor the launch of the first FG models. The guitar's body is made with a solid Sitka spruce top, sourced from Canada and Alaska, which delivers a rich midrange and low-frequency response, perfect for chordal strumming and rhythmic finger-style playing. The solid mahogany back and sides contribute to a warm and woody tone with a strong midrange, thanks to their slower transient response.
One of the standout features of the FSX3 is Yamaha's proprietary Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (ARE) treatment. This process accelerates the natural aging of the tonewood by controlling heat, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, resulting in a rich, vintage-quality tone that would take years to achieve naturally. The guitar also features new bracing patterns refined from the FG-180 50th anniversary reissue. These enhancements improve low-frequency response and ensure durability, providing a full and powerful sound.
The FSX3 is equipped with the Atmosfeel 3-way pickup and preamp system, which captures a full, natural sound. This system uses a piezo sensor in the bridge for low frequencies, a microphone for low and midrange, and a proprietary contact sensor pickup for high frequencies. The Microphone Blend control allows for easy adjustment, making it ideal for solo performers, chordal players, and finger-style guitarists. The Bass knob controls a peaking EQ, allowing for precise low-frequency adjustments to suit any performance environment.
