PRS’s amp designer Doug Sewell had this to say about the PRS Archon Classic – “This is the answer for those wanting an Archon with a hotrod vintage Lead channel gain structure without changing preamp tube types, and a juiced up Clean channel without having to use a boost pedal all wrapped up in a retro inspired cabinet design.”
The PRS Archon Classic features a classic Archon style 2-channel loadout. This amp is designed for players who crave classic tones but still want the ability to push beyond. Building on the original Archon’s gain structure, the Archon Classic’s Lead Channel offers a wider range of gain tones, particularly in the midrange. The Clean Channel smoothly transitions from crystal-clear cleans to warm edge-of-breakup sounds. With its three-dimensional tone, the Archon Classic provides shimmering highs, tight lows, and excellent note clarity and articulation.
The Archon Classic’s intuitive 3-band EQ lets players fine-tune their tones, while individual channel and master volume controls adjust loudness and distortion. The bright switch boosts treble, enhancing the high end without becoming harsh. The global presence and depth controls shape the feedback network, unlocking more high-end clarity and low-end resonance. Turning up the Presence emphasizes high-mids and treble, adding texture and a more 3-dimensional sound, while the Depth control lets players choose between a tight or bass-heavy response.
