The Synergy ENGL SAVAGE Preamp Module offers guitarists access to the acclaimed high-gain tones of the Engl SAVAGE amplifier in a compact and versatile format. Engl amplifiers have established a strong reputation for their boutique sound, with the SAVAGE model, introduced in the early 1990s, being a significant contributor to this legacy. Its ability to deliver high levels of gain while maintaining string-to-string clarity has made it an industry benchmark. Horst Langer, the designer behind many of Engl's top-tier amplifiers, including the SAVAGE, has inspired numerous renowned artists. The SAVAGE continues to be a flagship model within Engl's product line.
Recognising the enduring appeal of this classic amplifier, Synergy collaborated with Horst Langer to encapsulate the SAVAGE's wide tonal range and responsive feel within one of their popular preamp modules. The resulting Synergy SAVAGE preamp module provides the sonic capabilities of a substantial amplifier in a more manageable and convenient size. Furthermore, the module incorporates two Gain Lo/Hi switches and a precisely designed Contour switch, providing users with significant control over a diverse selection of tones.
The Synergy preamp module system is built on the principle of interchangeable preamps, partnering with respected amplifier designers like Horst Langer. This approach allows guitarists to access highly sought-after all-tube tones, catering to the demands of modern musicians who require solutions for direct recording, lower stage volumes, and compact guitar rigs. The modular system has gained considerable traction within the industry due to its flexibility and quality.
A notable feature of the Synergy SAVAGE module is the Cathode Select Switch. This three-position switch enables users to adjust the input tube bass response, effectively replicating the original circuit configurations of the selected module. This adjustment directly influences the playing feel and tightness of the sound. Each amplifier designer employs specific component combinations in their input tube circuits, and this switch provides access to three of the most commonly used combinations. The SAVAGE module is shipped with the switch set to Synergy's preferred setting, which is position 1 (utilising a 1.5K resistor and a 22uf capacitor).
