Description

The SYNERGY BMAN Preamp Module offers guitarists and bassists the opportunity to access the foundational tones of classic American amplifiers, particularly those inspired by the renowned 50-watt, 4 x 10" tweed Bassman combo from 1959. This amplifier, originally intended for bass but quickly adopted by guitarists for its exceptional overdrive capabilities, significantly influenced the development of both American and British rock music. Its sonic characteristics, ranging from glassy cleans to thick, harmonic crunch, have become legendary and continue to inspire amplifier designs today.

The BMAN module is engineered to replicate the sonic essence of these vintage tube amplifiers. It features two independent channels, each driven by a 12AX7 tube, allowing users to switch between a traditional clean sound and a more aggressive overdriven tone suitable for lead work or rhythm playing. Each channel is equipped with gain and volume controls, as well as a three-band EQ for precise tonal shaping. Furthermore, each channel incorporates bright and tight switches. These switches provide additional tonal flexibility, enabling users to modify the character of the sound and manage the low-end response often associated with vintage amplifiers.

A notable feature of the BMAN module is its Cathode Select Switch. This three-position switch allows users to adjust the input tube bass response, effectively tailoring the feel and tightness of the sound to emulate different popular circuit configurations. The module comes pre-set to position 1, mirroring the 1.5K resistor and 22uf capacitor configuration found in the original Fender Bassman. This patent-pending feature provides a level of tonal customisation not typically found in standard preamp modules.

The BMAN module also includes a Dual<>Single slide switch, enhancing its compatibility with a wider range of modular amplifier systems. This switch enables the module to be used not only in newer dual-channel Synergy amplifiers but also in older single-channel Egnater and Randall modular amps or preamps that do not inherently support dual-channel modules. In single mode, only the top channel of the module is active when the slot is selected. In dual mode, designed for systems with dual-channel switching capabilities, both channels of the module are accessible. When used in a single-channel amplifier in dual mode, the bottom channel of the module will be active. This thoughtful design ensures that users with various amplifier setups can benefit from the BMAN module's tonal capabilities.

In summary, the SYNERGY BMAN Preamp Module provides a practical and detailed way to achieve the sought-after tones of a classic American amplifier. Its dual-channel design, coupled with individual channel controls, bright and tight switches, a unique cathode select switch, and a dual/single compatibility switch, makes it a versatile tool for guitarists and bassists seeking authentic vintage-inspired sounds in a modern modular format.
