The Synergy SYN-2 Dual Module Tube Preamp offers a versatile solution for guitarists seeking to expand their tonal possibilities. This unit allows users to integrate Synergy preamp modules into their setup in several key ways.
One significant advantage is its direct recording and performance capability. The SYN-2 features a cabinet-simulated XLR output, enabling users to send the authentic sound and feel of valve amplifiers directly to a recording console or front-of-house system. This eliminates the need for microphone placement and provides a consistent, studio-quality tone. The built-in cabinet simulation can also be bypassed for those who prefer to use their own impulse responses. Furthermore, the inclusion of a front-mounted Sag control, developed in collaboration with amp designer Steven Fryette, allows for precise adjustments to the feel and response of the preamp, emulating the dynamic characteristics of a valve amplifier. An onboard effects loop provides further flexibility for incorporating rack-mounted and floor-based effects. A ground lift switch is also included to mitigate unwanted signal noise.
For players who are dissatisfied with their current amplifier's tone or who frequently use rented backline, the SYN-2 offers a way to achieve consistent, high-quality valve tone. By connecting the SYN-2 to an amplifier's series effects loop return or power amp input, the user bypasses the host amplifier's preamp section and instead utilises the tone of the Synergy module. This allows for the transformation of any suitable amplifier into a platform for the diverse range of amplifier voicings available within the Synergy module ecosystem. Each Synergy module typically offers two footswitchable channels and an effects loop, providing immediate access to a wider sonic palette.
The SYN-2 can also function as a channel expander for existing amplifiers equipped with a series effects loop. Using a standard three-cable connection, the SYN-2 adds four additional footswitchable channels (two from each installed Synergy module) to the host amplifier. This allows players to seamlessly switch between their amplifier's inherent tones and the sounds offered by the Synergy modules using a compatible footswitch, such as the optional Synergy 5F. The SYN-2's onboard effects loop remains available for integrating external effects units. This integration does not negatively impact the original sound of the connected amplifier.
Control over the SYN-2 is facilitated through two primary methods. The optional Synergy 5F foot controller provides five programmable buttons, allowing for on-the-fly channel switching and unit bypass. Additionally, the SYN-2 is fully MIDI compatible, accepting both 5-pin and 7-pin connectors, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of MIDI controllers. A MIDI Thru connection allows for the control of multiple MIDI-enabled devices, and a phantom power input is provided for powering compatible MIDI foot controllers. The programming of the footswitch is designed to be user-friendly.
Please note that no modules are included with the SYN-2.
