The Taylor Builder's Edition 914ce WHB is a premium electro-acoustc guitar designed for discerning players seeking a versatile and high-quality instrument. This Grand Auditorium body shape guitar blends solid tonewood construction, comfortable design elements, and advanced electronics to deliver a rich, balanced tone suitable for a variety of playing styles.
Tonewoods and Construction:
The 914ce WHB features a Lutz spruce top, a naturally occurring hybrid of Sitka and White spruce. This wood is known for its powerful sonic characteristics, blending the best qualities of its parent species and often exhibiting properties similar to Adirondack spruce. This results in strong volume, projection, and tonal richness. The back and sides are crafted from solid Indian rosewood, a highly regarded tonewood known for its wide frequency range, producing deep lows and bright, sparkling trebles. The combination of Lutz spruce and Indian rosewood provides a balanced tone with both clarity and power.
The guitar's body is shaped in Taylor's popular Grand Auditorium design. This versatile shape sits comfortably between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert, making it suitable for both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The Grand Auditorium offers a full lower register, present midrange, and sparkling treble, making it a popular choice for singer-songwriters and players seeking a single guitar for various styles.
V-Class Bracing:
The 914ce WHB incorporates Taylor's revolutionary V-Class bracing system. This innovative design alters the way the guitar's top vibrates, resulting in increased volume, sustain, and improved intonation. V-Class bracing stiffens the top along the direction of the strings for enhanced sustain while allowing for greater flexibility across the top for increased volume. This bracing system also improves the guitar's intonation, ensuring that notes played across the fretboard are more in tune with each other.
Comfort and Playability:
The Builder's Edition 914ce WHB prioritises player comfort with several design enhancements. These include a bevelled cutaway for easy access to the higher frets, a bevelled armrest for comfortable playing, and rolled fretboard edges for a smooth feel. The chamfered body edges further enhance playing comfort. The guitar also features a Silent Satin finish, which reduces noise and adds to the overall playing experience.
Electronics:
The guitar is equipped with Taylor's Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics. This innovative pickup system utilises three uniquely positioned sensors behind the saddle to capture a wider range of the guitar's dynamic properties. The ES2, combined with Taylor's custom-designed preamp, delivers exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness, making the 914ce WHB stage-ready.
Appointments and Case:
The 914ce WHB features elegant appointments, including a mother-of-pearl peghead logo, Belle Fleur inlays made of paua and mother of pearl, a single-ring paua rosette with ebony soundhole binding, koa purfling around the fretboard and peghead, and antique gold Gotoh 510 tuning machines. The guitar ships with a deluxe hardshell case for protection.
Responsibly Sourced Materials:
Taylor is committed to ethical sourcing and sustainable practices. The materials used in the 914ce WHB are responsibly sourced.
