The Taylor Builder's Edition 912ce is a premium Grand Concert electro-acoustic guitar crafted with world-class tonewoods and player-focused design elements. This guitar is designed for those who appreciate nuanced tone, comfortable playability, and exquisite aesthetics.
Tonewoods and Construction:
The 912ce features a solid Honduran rosewood back and sides, known for its complex harmonic character, warm lows, and clear, piano-like trebles. This tonewood contributes to a rich, textured sound with lush overtones. The top is made from hand-selected striped sinker redwood, reclaimed from logs submerged in California rivers. This wood adds a cedar-like warmth and touch sensitivity, along with increased volume and dynamic range compared to standard redwood. The neck is constructed from neo-tropical mahogany, providing stability and a comfortable feel. The fretboard, bridge, peghead veneer, fretboard binding, peghead binding, and bridge pins are all made from West African Crelicam ebony.
Body Shape and Playability:
The Grand Concert body shape is smaller and more comfortable than larger body styles like dreadnoughts, making it ideal for both studio recording and stage performances. Its tapered waist and shorter scale length (24-7/8") contribute to a lighter string tension and enhanced playability, particularly for fingerstyle guitarists. The guitar also features a bevelled cutaway for easy access to the higher frets, a bevelled armrest for added comfort, and chamfered body edges. The Curve Wing bridge further enhances playing comfort.
V-Class Bracing:
Taylor's patented V-Class bracing system is incorporated into the 912ce. This innovative bracing pattern enhances the guitar's volume, sustain, and intonation by controlling the top's flexibility and stiffness. V-Class bracing allows the top to vibrate more efficiently, resulting in louder, longer-sustaining notes that are more in tune with each other.
Electronics and Hardware:
The 912ce is equipped with Taylor's Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics. This system uses three uniquely positioned sensors behind the saddle to capture a wider range of the guitar's dynamic properties, delivering a natural and responsive amplified tone. The guitar also features premium Gotoh 510 antique gold tuners for precise tuning stability, and stunning Belle Fleur inlays in paua and mother-of-pearl.
Aesthetics and Case:
The guitar boasts a Kona edgeburst finish on the back and sides with a heelburst on the neck, Hawaiian koa purfling, and paua edge trim. These visual appointments complement the premium tonewoods and contribute to the guitar's elegant appearance. A deluxe hardshell case is included to provide superior protection for the instrument.
Sustainability:
Taylor is committed to responsible sourcing and sustainable practices. The 912ce is crafted using ethically sourced materials.
