The Taylor Builder's Edition 814ce represents a culmination of Taylor's guitar-making expertise, blending premium tonewoods, innovative design, and meticulous craftsmanship. This Grand Auditorium electro-acoustic guitar is designed for players seeking a versatile instrument with exceptional tone, comfort, and playability.
Tonewoods and Sound:
This guitar features a Honduran rosewood back and sides, known for its density and ability to produce warm, complex overtones with a smooth character. Paired with an Adirondack spruce top, the guitar gains projection, clarity, and power. Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern red or Appalachian spruce, offers a higher dynamic range than Sitka, allowing the player to drive the top harder without losing clarity. It also contributes a "sweetness" to the midrange. This combination of woods creates a rich, textured voice that remains articulate even with aggressive playing, providing blooming overtones and sustain.
Body Shape and Bracing:
The Grand Auditorium body shape, a Taylor design introduced in 1994, is a versatile mid-size shape that falls between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. It offers a balance of full low-end, present midrange, and sparkling trebles, making it suitable for various playing styles. The guitar features V-Class bracing, a Taylor innovation that enhances volume, sustain, and intonation. This bracing pattern stiffens the top in the direction of the strings for sustain while allowing flexibility for volume, resulting in notes that are louder, longer-lasting, and more in tune.
Comfort and Playability:
The Builder's Edition 814ce prioritises player comfort. It features chamfered body edges, a bevelled armrest, and a bevelled cutaway for a seamless and relaxed feel. The smooth Curve Wing bridge and Taylor's easy-playing neck contribute to a comfortable playing experience. The bevelled cutaway allows easy access to the higher frets, and the finger bevel on the top provides a comfortable resting place for the pinky finger.
Electronics:
The guitar is equipped with the Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics. This system uses three uniquely positioned sensors behind the saddle to capture a wider range of the guitar's dynamic properties. This design offers improved amplified tone and responsiveness compared to traditional under-saddle pickups. The ES2 faithfully conveys the voice of the guitar whether plugged into a PA, acoustic amplifier, or recording software.
Appointments and Case:
The Builder's Edition 814ce boasts premium appointments, including Element fretboard inlays in shell and mother of pearl, a rosewood pickguard, Gotoh 510 antique gold tuning machines, and a full-body gloss finish with a Kona Edgeburst for the back and sides and a complementary Shaded Edge Burst treatment for the top. A Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Brown case is included for protection and storage.
Sustainability:
Taylor is committed to responsible sourcing and sustainable practices.
