This Limited Edition Eric Clapton D-28 is a special acoustic guitar that harmoniously blends craftsmanship, history, and musical legacy. Created in celebration of Eric Clapton's remarkable six decades as a professional musician, this guitar pays homage to the legendary artist's enduring influence on the world of music.
In September 2023, this guitar was announced as part of Crossroads Guitar Festival celebrations - an iconic event that brings together music enthusiasts and virtuosos. Our very own John Priest embarked on the transatlantic journey to Los Angeles to immerse himself in the festival's electric atmosphere.
The Eric Clapton D-28 draws inspiration from Martin's standard "000" sized Eric Clapton Signature model. However, it boasts a dreadnought body shape, ensuring powerful projection, rich resonance, and a commanding presence on stage.
Tonally, the D-28 features Sitka spruce for the top - a tonewood revered for its responsiveness and clarity. The back and sides are crafted from Indian rosewood, known for its warm, balanced tones.
Artistic details abound: the herringbone rosette and purfling add elegance to the guitar's soundhole, reflecting the meticulous attention to detail. The ebony fingerboard showcases a diamonds-and-squares pattern in abalone pearl, a visual feast for players and audiences alike. Eric Clapton's signature, delicately inlaid in mother-of-pearl between the 19th and 20th frets, serves as a testament to the guitar's exclusivity.
The modified-V neck profile ensures a comfortable grip, allowing players to effortlessly navigate the fretboard. The darker ebony used for the fingerboard and bridge adds a touch of sophistication and class. The D-28 features a vintage-style "Belly" bridge, which optimises string vibration transfer to the soundboard, contributing to the guitar's lush, well-balanced tone.
