It includes a rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays, a rounded neck profile, and a traditional belly-up rosewood bridge with a bone saddle. The Gibson 1960 Hummingbird Light Aged Heritage Cherry Sunburst represents a faithful recreation of the iconic square-shouldered Hummingbird acoustic guitar introduced by Gibson in 1960. This model captures the essence of the original instruments that were embraced by musicians of that era. A key feature is the thermally aged Sitka spruce top. This process simulates the natural ageing of the wood, contributing to the guitar's resonance and tone. The back and sides are crafted from mahogany, a tonewood known for its warm and balanced sound.
The guitar's vintage aesthetic is further enhanced by the Murphy Lab Light Aged finish. Skilled artisans at the Murphy Lab apply this treatment to the nitrocellulose lacquer, replicating the light play wear and patina of a well-preserved vintage instrument. This ageing process extends to the hardware as well, creating a cohesive and authentic look and feel. The multi-ply binding on the top and back, along with the single-ply binding on the rosewood fingerboard, add to the guitar's visual appeal.
The neck features a rounded profile, providing a comfortable playing experience. The scale length is 24.75 inches, a standard Gibson scale. The rosewood fingerboard has a 12-inch radius and is adorned with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. The compound dovetail neck-to-body joint ensures a strong and stable connection, contributing to the guitar's overall resonance and sustain. A bone nut with a width of 1.724 inches provides optimal string spacing.
The traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing pattern within the guitar's body allows the top to vibrate freely, enhancing the instrument's projection and tonal complexity. The rosewood bridge, featuring a traditional belly-up design, is paired with a bone saddle for efficient transfer of string vibrations to the soundboard. Gotoh tuning machines with keystone buttons provide reliable tuning stability. The guitar comes with a period-correct case, a Gibson accessory kit, and a certificate of authenticity.
