The Gibson Custom Johnny Cash SJ-200 is a meticulously crafted tribute to one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Johnny Cash's impact on country, rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel music is well-documented, with over 90 million records sold and numerous awards to his name, including 13 GRAMMY Awards and inductions into multiple Halls of Fame. This guitar honours his legacy, offering players a chance to own a piece of music history.
Gibson Custom has recreated the iconic SJ-200s that were originally made for Johnny Cash in the late 1950s. These guitars feature Cash's name inlaid in mother of pearl on the fretboard and a distinctive pickguard designed by Cash himself. Each of the 100 guitars in this limited run was hand-made by the skilled luthiers at the Gibson Custom Shop in Bozeman, Montana, ensuring exceptional quality and attention to detail.
The SJ-200 features a Super Jumbo body made from solid AAA Sitka Spruce for the top, paired with solid AAA Flamed Maple for the back and sides. This combination of tonewoods provides a rich, resonant sound with excellent projection, making it ideal for live performances and studio recordings alike.
The neck of the guitar is crafted from 2-piece Flamed Maple with a Walnut Stringer, offering both strength and visual appeal. It features a comfortable Round neck profile, a nut width of 43.815mm, and a 25.5" scale length, making it easy to play across all 20 frets of the Indian Rosewood fingerboard, which is topped with a bone nut for enhanced sustain and clarity.
For added stability and style, the guitar is equipped with a Four Bar SJ-200 Moustache bridge made from Rosewood, and gold Gotoh tuners with Green Keystone Buttons. These features ensure precise tuning and reliable performance, while also adding to the guitar's aesthetic appeal.
