Marking a Milestone: The Lowden 50th Anniversary Collection O-50 | Master Grade Guatemalan Rosewood - Master Grade Alpine Spruce
For half a century, George Lowden has been crafting guitars that resonate with musicians across the globe. From the serene landscapes of County Down, Northern Ireland, where George first began in 1974, to the international stages graced by iconic artists, Lowden guitars have maintained a standard of excellence and artistry. To commemorate this significant milestone, Lowden Guitars presents the 50th Anniversary Collection - a limited edition series that encapsulates the essence of their legacy.
Introducing the O-50 | Master Grade Guatemalan Rosewood - Master Grade Alpine Spruce
Amongst the exceptional instruments in this collection, the O-50 stands out, not merely as a guitar but as a celebration of Lowden's storied history and craftsmanship.
Shape and Design:The O model, known as "The Original," represents the first standard soundbox design created by George Lowden in 1976. This design has remained unaltered since its inception, solidifying its place as a quintessential Lowden model. The O is the second largest in the Lowden lineup, following the Baritone, and is often compared to a Jumbo style guitar. However, it possesses a unique design and voice. The soundbox geometry and bracing are specifically voiced to enhance treble response, counterbalancing the naturally bass-heavy tones of a large-bodied guitar.
Tone Woods:
- Back and Sides: The O-50 features Master Grade Guatemalan Rosewood, a wood chosen for its extraordinary tonal and visual qualities. This rare and stunning wood delivers a rich, balanced sound with a depth that captivates both player and listener.
- Soundboard: The top is crafted from Master Grade Alpine Spruce, renowned for its superior resonance and clarity. Each piece is meticulously selected to ensure it meets Lowden's rigorous 50 Series Master Grade standards, ensuring unparalleled sound quality.
Neck and Fingerboard:The neck of the O-50 is a 5-piece construction of mahogany and rosewood, providing exceptional stability and sustain. The fingerboard is made of ebony, with maple bindings, offering a smooth and luxurious playing experience. The GL standard neck profile, measuring 45mm at the nut and 57mm at the 14th fret, is designed for optimal playability.
Additional Features:
- Binding and Purflings: The guitar is elegantly bound with Tasmanian Blackwood, complemented by purflings of rocklite, maple, and mahogany.
- Custom Options: The O-50 includes the 50th Anniversary inlay package and a soundbox bevel. The bevel, first introduced on the Pierre Bensusan signature model, enhances comfort by allowing the arm to rest more naturally on the guitar.
- Hardware: The guitar is fitted with Gotoh Gold 510 tuners with ebony buttons, ensuring precise tuning and a touch of elegance.
Strings: Strung with Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb 12-53 strings, the O-50 delivers a bright, long-lasting tone that complements its rich, resonant body.
A Tribute to Craftsmanship and Legacy
Each guitar in the 50th Anniversary Collection features special limited edition labels, a mother of pearl Lowden logo, a front of headstock 50th inlay, and a 1974 inlay on the heel cap. This 50 Series model also includes a 1974 logo in abalone on the back head facing, adding to the exclusivity and commemorative nature of this instrument.
The O-50, with its Master Grade Guatemalan Rosewood and Alpine Spruce, exemplifies the pinnacle of Lowdens craftsmanship. With only a limited number available, this guitar is a collector's dream, embodying the spirit of George Lowden's journey and dedication to excellence.
George Lowden's Reflection
Reflecting on this milestone, George Lowden shares, "When I began making guitars under the Lowden name 50 years ago, I could have never imagined that my guitars would go on to be played by some of the best-loved guitarists across genres. I have been blessed to work with iconic musicians over the years to create guitars that inspire them to make music. From up-and-coming guitarists learning their first chords on Lowden guitars to seeing our instruments being played to sold-out audiences of record-breaking sizes, we owe all of Lowden's success over the years to our players who have grown to be more than customers but inspirations, collaborators, supporters and very much part of the Lowden family."
As one of only two UK retailers selected to offer this exclusive collection, Peach Guitars is honored to present the Lowden 50th Anniversary Collection O-50 | Master Grade Guatemalan Rosewood - Master Grade Alpine Spruce. This guitar not only signifies Lowden's 50 years of excellence but also promises a future filled with continued innovation and dedication to the art of guitar making.
