Two Notes Pre-Amplifiers | OPUS
The Ultimate Go-Anywhere Amp Sim Powered By Tube-Stage Modelling & The DynIR Engine
Ever wanted a room full of mic'd-up amp rigs that could fit in the palm of your hand? Well that's exactly what Two Notes have done with the OPUS. From preamp and power amp modelling, to dynamic speaker and mic emulation, to built in digital effects - all with a versatile I/O - is this the ultimate tool for a session musician? Rock up to any gig with an amp small enough to fit into the pocket of a gig bag and plug right into the PA system.
With this new product, Two Notes introduce their new Tube-Stage Modeling (TSM) to power the 5 preamp emulations. These range from:
- the Foundry - a high-headroom American clean amp that makes a great pedal platform,
- the Foxy - a responsive British Invasion clean-to-mid gain amp with signature chime,
- the Albion - a staple of aggressive British gain with that iconic mid-range focus,
- the NiftyFifty - your go to American high gain monster for the extremes of music,
- and lastly the Peggy - a classic thumping '60s bass amp with complex harmonics and a warm midrange.
The Opus actually holds room for 10 preamps so make sure you look for the free firmware updates where Two Notes guarantee more preamps will be added!
Where other amp emulators might only let you choose between the power amp tubes, the Opus does this - with options of 6L6, EL34, EL84, and KT88 power amp tubes - and even more. Choose between Pentode and Triode, Push-Pull Class AB, or Single Ended Class A power amp designs for full control over your amplifiers build to match the best tool for the job.
With the amp side of tones taken care of, lets take a deeper look into the cabs and mics. The Opus comes loaded with their class leading DynIR Engine which allows you to emulate cabinets and their speakers, dual mic from 8 different microphones, and simulate 12 whole room environments with 10,000 different locations to place those mic's! Now that's a lot of tonal options. The Opus also comes pre-loaded with the Series-O DynIR Cab Collection with 32 different cabinet captures from the likes of Steve Stevens, Dave Friedman, Pete Thorn, George Lynch, and Phil X - but you can easily load your own 3rd party IRs via the speedy USB-C connection.
With so much processing power already packed into such a small unit, its a miracle that they fir in pro-grade DSP-powered effects including an EQ, an Enhancer, a Noise Gate, and Reverb - the essentials for any rig. With electric guitar and bass catered for, acoustic players might be feeling left out but fear not because the Opus comes loaded with 40+ premier Acoustic IRs which can take your piezo pickup outputs from sounding flat and bland to sounding like mic'd up luxurious tone machines with plenty of life in them.
The opus isn't just versatile in sound but also in signal chain application. For basic application, just plug your guitar into the INST./LINE IN on the right side and connect to the PA or recording interface via the DI OUT or LINE OUT - easy as! You could also just only have the Opus' preamp section engaged and take the line out to the FX return of a real amp or instead place the Opus between a real amp and its speaker cab to send a mic'd cab emulation to the PA or interface whilst keeping your amp on stage for monitoring. If you prefer a silent stage then you can easily use the headphone output and can add backing tracks with ease via the AUX IN. If you're worried about the minimalist control layout then put your worries to ease as the Opus is fully MIDI controllable for mid-set preset changes and all settings are intuitively tweakable with the Torpedo Remote app via Bluetooth or USB.
