Every guitarist knows the importance of having a versatile collection, and a single-cut guitar is an essential part of that arsenal. The Pro Am T from Anderson T Family stands out in this category with its clean, non-pickguard aesthetics. As part of their Shorty models, it features a 24 3/4" scale length that enhances its playability and tone.
Body and Wood Selection
The Pro Am T boasts a swamp ash body, a choice rooted in tradition dating back to the early '50s. Swamp ash is celebrated for its scooped midrange tone, robust low end, and sparkling highs. This wood is lighter and more porous than other ash types, resulting in a richer, less harsh timbre. The Pro Am T maximises these qualities, delivering a multifaceted tone with abundant soft, sparkling highs and rich, deep lows.
Distinctive Finish
The guitar's standout finish in TV Yellow with Black Dog Hair is a highlight. This unique Dog Hair finish is a labour-intensive, hand-applied technique that fills the wood grain's pores with contrasting colours, resulting in a dramatic visual effect. This finish is smooth to the touch, unlike the Organic Grain Satin finishes that retain a woody texture. Throw in a high gloss finish for a guitar that not only looks stunning but feels premium.
Neck and Fingerboard
The neck of the Pro Am T is crafted from caramel maple and finished satin. The fingerboard features a 12 to 14-inch conical radius, a subtle curve that facilitates comfortable playability and effortless string bending. This design, which Anderson has perfected, ensures a smooth playing experience with low action height, making it ideal for both chords and solos.
The neck's back shape, labelled as 60's Vibe +.020, adds depth from the 1st to the 12th fret, offering a medium-depth feel at the lower frets and a more substantial grip higher up. With dimensions of .855-inch at the first fret to .980 at the 12th, it caters to a variety of playing styles. The nut width is a comfortable 1 11/16-inch, paired with "Heavy" stainless steel frets, the second-largest size. Anderson's choice of stainless steel frets is driven by their durability and smooth playability, providing slick, fast, and easy performance with every use.
Pickups and Electronics
The Pro Am T is equipped with PQ1- and PQ2 soapbar-style pickups, which eliminate the 60-cycle hum. These pickups deliver a unique sound that sits between the clarity of single coils and the fatness of humbuckers. They provide a wide bandwidth with low, booming lows and clear, musical highs, but without the harshness often associated with single coils. The midrange is substantial enough for versatility, allowing the pickups to produce pristine tones when clean and dirty, gritty sounds when pushed through an amp.
Additional Features
The guitar is strung with Elixir strings, gauge 10-46, and includes the Buzz Feiten Tuning System, which Anderson has employed since 1996. This system offers a compromise in tuning that ensures everything sounds pleasing, unlike traditional Even Tempered Tuning that can sometimes result in certain notes sounding out of tune.
