Sigma 1 Series | 000M-1 - Natural
Solid Sitka Spruce Top - Mahogany Back & Sides
In the late 1960s, US guitar manufacturers faced significant competition from affordable, Japanese-made guitars that closely resembled American models. To counter this, American companies launched "Sigma Guitars" in 1970. These acoustic guitars were built by skilled workers in efficient Japanese factories and then inspected in the US before being released to the market. Sigma Guitars quickly earned a reputation for their exceptional quality in construction and sound, resulting in a dedicated fan base and collectors who rarely part with their instruments.
The Sigma 1 Series 000M-1 is a standout model. It features a 000-14 fret body size, providing a comfortable and balanced feel ideal for both fingerstyle and strumming. The dovetail neck joint construction ensures a secure fit between the neck and body, enhancing the guitar's overall stability and resonance. The top is made from solid Sitka spruce, known for its strength and flexibility, which contributes to a rich, clear, and dynamic sound.
The back and sides are crafted from mahogany, offering warmth and depth to the guitar's tone. The neck, also mahogany, has a low-profile design that facilitates easy playability and smooth hand movement along the fretboard. The nut and saddle are made from bone, providing excellent sustain and a more natural tone compared to synthetic materials. The fingerboard and bridge are constructed from micarta, which is durable and resistant to environmental changes, ensuring consistent performance over time.
The 000M-1 has a scale length of 25.4 inches (645 mm), offering a balance between string tension and playability, which suits a variety of playing styles. The neck width at the nut of 1-11/16 inches (42.9 mm) provides a comfortable grip for most players, allowing for precise finger placement and easier chord transitions. It includes a two-way truss rod for easy adjustments to the neck relief, ensuring optimal playability and action.
The chrome diecast tuning machines provide stable and accurate tuning, reducing the need for frequent retuning. The high gloss finish not only adds to the guitar's aesthetic appeal but also protects the wood from moisture and wear. The guitar comes strung with D’Addario EXP16 strings, which are coated for extended lifespan while maintaining a bright and consistent tone. The Sigma 1 Series 000M-1 exemplifies Sigma's commitment to quality and attention to detail, making it a reliable choice for musicians seeking both performance and durability.
