Every once in a while a guitar will come along that perfectly embraces modern design, playability and tone, the end result being a guitar that is perfect for home, stage and studio. The PRS Modern Eagle V is one of those guitars.
With a stunning Figured Maple 10 top, the Modern Eagle V looks every bit as good as it sounds. With an Ash back it offers incredible resonance and is perfectly weighted and balanced while the sleek design offers great access right up the neck. The 22 figured Maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard feature a Pattern profile, offering a warm tone and loads of sustain it feels great underhand. Proudly bearing the classic bird inlays, this is every bit the premium guitar.
The PRS Modern Eagle V utilizes a hum/single/hum (five-coil) pickup configuration and introduces a new and unique switching system that gives players a vast array of tones in one guitar. The 5-way blade switch selects the pickups just as the 509 does (treble, treble and middle, middle, middle and bass, bass). The two paired mini-toggles separate the slug-side coils, turning the humbuckers into true, "TCI-tuned" single coils. There is a single volume and a push/pull tone control that activates both humbuckers when engaged; this allows players to access three pickups simultaneously. Finally, there is a third mini-toggle that changes the volume pot value from 500k to 250k, which gives the guitar a different palette of tones. This electronics design puts a whole set of classic and new tones at your fingertips.
This guitar was presented to us by someone very high up at PRS. It's a bit of a mystery as to how this guitar came to be? The Modern Eagle V was released as a limited edition model in 2020 as part of an "Experience PRS" online event to huge acclaim. Its normally only available as part of the Private Stock Program, however it seems that this one has slipped the net...
It is worth mentioning that this guitar does in fact have a middle pickup, it is just had to spot due to the stealthy nature of this guitar! What an awesome piece!
