The guitar is built using long-stored Adirondack Spruce that was cosmetically flawed, promoting sustainability and taking advantage of excellent seasoned tone. Using their Mimaki printer, they achieved the look of figured mahogany for the top. The back and sides are made from genuine mahogany, producing a warm and balanced tone. It's a dreadnought with classic Martin power and resonance, strung with Luxe by Martin Kovar Strings. The guitar is purely acoustic with no electronic components, and it comes with a hardshell case and is signed by C.F. Martin IV. Fast forward to 1976, when Martin introduced the original D-19 in honour of the founding of the United States, designed as an upscale D-18. These guitars featured tops stained to make use of spruce with exceptional tonal qualities but less-than-perfect aesthetics.
In a heartfelt nod to this legacy, C.F. Martin IV has chosen to revive the spirit of the D-19 as a limited run to celebrate Martin's 190th anniversary. Staying faithful to the original design, Martin has chosen to use tonally-flawless Adirondack spruce that had long been part of their inventory due to minor cosmetic imperfections. Through advanced technology, they've achieved the look of figured mahogany for the top, resulting in a unique and rare appearance that elegantly conceals any flaws. This approach not only yields a rare and exceptional-sounding guitar but also embodies sustainability by using wood that had been harvested and stored but remained unused. The back and sides are crafted from Genuine Mahogany, producing a warm and balanced tone.
As a dreadnought, this guitar embodies the classic Martin power and resonance, remaining purely acoustic with no electronic embellishments. It's strung with medium gauge Luxe by Martin Kovar Strings, a newer string with excellent durability and rich, resonant tone. The forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing is also constructed from Adirondack spruce, providing exceptional strength and tonal characteristics. The Modified Low Oval neck shape ensures comfortable playability, especially when combined with Martin's High-Performance neck taper.
