Kirk Hammett is one of the most well know and respected players of all time, his lead playing and showmanship are stuff of legend! Even now, over 35 years since the birth of Metallica his music is just as prominent and vital to modern culture. Hammett and ESP have enjoyed a long and prosperous relationship together and this new collaboration is really something special.
In 1991, Kirk Hammett came to ESP with a request for a new guitar with a single cutaway design, but with the features of his KH-2 guitar. To make this guitar more special metallica's graphic designer "Pushhead" designed a unique spider graphic specifically for the new guitar. Hammett played this legendary instrument all throughout the '90s on tours supporting their legendary and world changing "Black Album". After many years on display in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame the guitar was returned to ESP as a reference for this 30th Anniversary Edition.
This beauty features a strong and resonant Alder body finished in black with the custom Spider graphic. It looks super slick and captures the feel and mojo of the original. The body is well weighted and balanced, it is a real dream to play.
With a 3-Piece Maple Neck-Thru you have unprecedented access all over the guitar, perfect for getting down there for those face melting solos! The Ebony fingerboard boasts 24 extra Jumbo frets, a 24.75" scale length, a 350mm radius and of course the classic spider inlays. Another super cool feature of the fingerboard is the inclusion of scalloped frets from the 17th-24th allowing for increased string grip and comfort when bending.
A modern tweak to the original design is the inclusion of Kirk's incredible EMG Bonebreaker pickups. These pickups are offer plenty of punch and power whilst still retaining great dynamics.
In classic Kirk Hammett style this guitar features a Floyd Rose 1000 bridge with a locking nut and Grover tuners. The hardware on this Anniversary model is top quality and allows for incredible stability.
