This exceptional acoustic guitar is a highly unique masterpiece that our company director personally selected the woods for during a visit to Lowden's workshop. This is a rare privilege, made possible by our long-standing relationship with Lowden, and it guarantees that the woods used in this guitar are of the absolute highest quality.
The 50 Series is often described as Lowden's Custom Shop, and it's easy to see why. The woods used in this series are Master Grade tonewoods, used for their superior tonal properties and visual beauty. Lowden re-grades their tonewoods several times, and only the rarest and most exceptional pieces are reserved for the 50 Series. In this O-50 model, the back and sides are crafted from Master Grade Koa, a lightweight wood that responds beautifully to subtle playing styles. Koa offers a jazzy, full tone with rich upper-midrange prominence, making it an ideal choice for players seeking an expressive, dynamic instrument. Whether you're strumming softly or picking intricate melodies, this guitar will respond to the lightest touch, giving you unparalleled control over your sound.
The Master Grade Driftwood Red Cedar soundboard hugely adds to this guitar's unique character, both visually and sonically. This particular type of cedar has been naturally aged and weathered, often found washed up on shores or collected from forests, giving it a distinctive appearance and tonal warmth. The ageing process enhances its resonance and depth, resulting in a rich, full-bodied sound that complements the brightness of the Koa back and sides. The O model, designed in 1976 and unaltered since, features a larger soundbox that delivers powerful projection and balanced tone. While it resembles a Jumbo-style guitar, the O model has its own distinct voice, with bracing designed to enhance treble response, balancing out the naturally bass-heavy characteristics of larger guitars.
Every detail of the O-50 exudes sophistication and craftsmanship. The highly figured wood bindings, intricate purflings on the top, back, and sides, and the stunning seven-piece hand-inlaid back centre seam are visual testaments to Lowden's commitment to perfection. The abalone and figured wood rosette adds a touch of elegance, while the extended maple-bound ebony fingerboard and bookmatched ebony front and back head facings elevate the guitar's aesthetic appeal to the highest level.
Beyond its stunning looks, the O-50 is also built for comfort and playability. The neck is a five-piece Mahogany and Rosewood construction, designed with Lowden's GL standard neck profile - a shape that provides excellent playability across the fretboard. It's topped off with Gotoh Gold 510 tuners with Ebony buttons, ensuring smooth and precise tuning every time.
Another standout features is the soundbox bevel, a custom option that makes the guitar incredibly comfortable to play for extended periods. Originally introduced on the Pierre Bensusan signature model, this bevel offers ergonomic comfort without compromising the guitar's aesthetic or tonal quality.
When you purchase from Peach Guitars, you're not just getting a top-tier instrument - you're getting a guitar that's been through our rigorous full setup process. Each guitar is carefully adjusted by one of our in-house guitar technicians to ensure optimal playability. This includes adjusting the truss rod, setting the action, and putting on fresh strings. No detail is overlooked, so you can be confident your guitar will play flawlessly right out of the box. The high-quality, individual photos of this guitar are not stock but are taken in-house, so you know exactly what you're getting.
