In 1974, George Lowden embarked on a journey that would etch his name into the annals of guitar-making history. From his humble beginnings in County Down, Northern Ireland, to becoming a revered name amongst musicians worldwide, Lowden guitars have always epitomised quality and craftsmanship. As Lowden Guitars celebrates its 50th anniversary, it is only fitting that this milestone be marked with a collection as special as the legacy it honours.

The Lowden 50th Anniversary Collection is a testament to five decades of dedication, featuring an exclusive selection of 150 limited edition guitars across the Master Series, 50, 35, and Original Series. Amongst these, the F-50 model stands out not just as a guitar but as a piece of art that echoes the essence of Lowden's heritage.

F-50 | Bois De Rose - Alpine Spruce: A Masterpiece of Craftsmanship

The F model, initially designed in 1982 and redesigned in 2003, is renowned for its versatility. While primarily crafted for flatpicking, its smaller soundbox shape delivers a balanced projection and midrange response that appeals to a broad range of guitarists, including fingerstyle players and blues enthusiasts. The design emphasises a flat bias, ensuring neither treble nor bass is overly dominant, offering a harmonious sound.

The F-50 features Master Grade Bois De Rose, a wood celebrated for its unique rose colour that matures into a deep, rich purple. This rare and visually stunning wood, referred to as the "King of Madagascar Rosewoods," provides a tonal quality comparable to Brazilian, Cocobolo, and Guatemalan Rosewood. Lowden were stunned by it and had experienced nothing like it previously.

The Master Grade Alpine Spruce top is selected for its superior tonal properties, ensuring a resonant and clear sound. This exact piece was meticulously chosen after multiple re-grading steps to meet Lowden's stringent 50 Series standards, guaranteeing that only the finest woods was used.

The neck of the F-50 is a robust 5-piece construction of mahogany and rosewood, enhancing stability and sustain. The ebony fingerboard, adorned with figured maple bindings, offers a smooth playing experience. The GL standard neck profile, measuring 45mm at the nut and extending to 57mm at the 14th fret, is designed for comfort and precision.

The guitar is elegantly bound with ebony and purpleheart, complemented by purflings of mahogany, maple, and rocklite. This special edition includes the 50th Anniversary Inlay Package and a Soundbox Bevel, a feature that enhances playing comfort by allowing the arm to rest more naturally on the guitar. Equipped with Gotoh 510 Gold tuners with ebony buttons, the F-50 ensures reliable tuning stability and a touch of luxury.

The guitar is strung with Lowden Light Gauge 12-53 strings, offering a balanced tension that is easy on the fingers while producing a vibrant sound.

Each guitar features a special limited edition label, a mother of pearl Lowden logo, a front of headstock 50th inlay, and a 1974 inlay on the heel cap. This model also boast a 1974 logo in abalone on the back head facing, which not all do.
