Its advanced electronics include a 5-way switch, master volume, midboost preamp, and master tone, allowing players to shape their sound effortlessly. Custom JTG hardware, a 2-post tremolo, and locking tuners ensure precise intonation and tuning stability, while a hardshell case provides premium protection. Visually striking and sonically powerful, the MK1 is built to perform at the highest level, whether in the studio or on stage.

James Tyler began his journey in the early 1970s, focusing on custom electric guitar work and repairs. As his reputation spread through word of mouth, Tyler became the go-to guitar technician for some of the biggest names in the Los Angeles studio scene throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. His passion for improving every aspect of the guitar, combined with a deep understanding of his clients' needs, cemented his status as a premier luthier. Players trusted him to deliver exceptional craftsmanship, and Tyler's hands-on experience with thousands of guitars gave him an unparalleled insight into what musicians truly want from their instruments.
With the new 'JTG' range, Tyler's guitar innovations are now available to an entirely new market of players on a lower budget. The MK1 is a fantastic value tool for session players and guitarists everywhere; based on the Studio Elite it comes with all the bells and whistles one would expect.
Body: The MK1 is crafted from solid alder, a tonewood known for its balanced tonal response and light weight. This gives the guitar a lively resonance and a clear, punchy sound. Finished in Fly Yellow, this regal looking guitar screams ultimate quality.
Neck and Fretboard: The neck is made from Canadian maple, paired with an Indian rosewood fretboard inlayed with Mother of Pearl dots and Luminlay side dots. This combination provides exceptional smooth playability and a warm, rich tonal character. Featuring a comfortable Standard 59 neck, this guitar feels amazing to play on, measuring .850" at the 1st fret and .980" at 12th. A 10"-14" compound radius helps to keep chords easy to fret on the lower frets and stops bends fretting out on the higher frets. Paired with a 42mm bone nut width for a familiar feel. Fretted with Jescar 51100 frets.
Pickups: With a full compliment of Alnico 5 pickups, this model features JTG5000 single-coils in neck and middle(reverse wound) positions. You get a much more balanced, smooth, and warm tone compared to other alnico pickups, with plenty of aggression when you dig in with your pick. The JTG Super humbucker in the bridge provides a strong low end, plenty of top-end sparkle, and excels in high-gain settings, making it ideal for rock and modern music styles.
Electronics: The control system features a 5-way blade switch, master volume, midboost preamp, and master tone controls. The active midboost preamp adds a 2db boost at 150Hz and 450Hz with a low pass at 4.5-25dB per octave - on top of this, you can utilise the midboost control to increase the mids and output further. This preamp can be bypassed easily with the touch of a button for passive tones or added in to give some extra "oomf" at the perfect moments.
Bridge and Hardware: The MK1 is equipped with custom JTG hardware designed especially for these guitars. With a 2-post tremolo and locking tuners, you get that perfect balance between vintage feel and modern standards of accurate intonation and tuning stability.
Case: The guitar comes with a Hardshell Case, providing premium protection and durability.
James Tyler guitars offer an exceptional experience in every aspect and the JTG range does not disappoint! Once you hold one, you'll instantly recognise the care and attention to detail put into every aspect of its design - it's as visually striking as it is sonically powerful. Whether you're a studio professional or a live performer, this guitar can handle anything from smooth clean tones to high-gain distortion with ease.
