James Tyler Guitars JTG | M1 - Jim Burst Metallic

JTG Retro & JTG Super Pickups - JTG Custom TOM Bridge & Locking Tuners

James Tyler built his reputation in the 1970s as a top-tier guitar technician for LA's elite session players, and his passion for innovation is now accessible to a wider audience with the JTG range. The M1, based on the Mongoose, blends classic blues and rock tones with premium craftsmanship, featuring an Okoume body with a 2-piece hard maple top for warmth and clarity. Its Okoume neck, paired with an Indian rosewood fretboard, ensures smooth playability, while a Standard '59 profile and 9.5" compound radius enhance comfort. Description

James Tyler began his journey in the early 1970s, focusing on custom electric guitar work and repairs. As his reputation spread through word of mouth, Tyler became the go-to guitar technician for some of the biggest names in the Los Angeles studio scene throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. His passion for improving every aspect of the guitar, combined with a deep understanding of his clients' needs, cemented his status as a premier luthier. Players trusted him to deliver exceptional craftsmanship, and Tyler's hands-on experience with thousands of guitars gave him an unparalleled insight into what musicians truly want from their instruments.

With the new 'JTG' range, Tyler's guitar innovations are now available to an entirely new market of players on a lower budget. The M1 is a fantastic value tool for session players and guitarists everywhere; based on the Mongoose, it comes with that classic blues and rock mojo you're familiar with.

Body: The M1 is crafted from Okoume with a 2-piece hard maple top for a warm, full tone with some high end bite. Finished in Jim Burst Metallic, this regal looking guitar screams ultimate quality.

Neck and Fretboard: The neck is made from Okoume, paired with an Indian rosewood fretboard inlayed with Mother of Pearl dots and Luminlay side dots on its maple binding. This combination provides exceptional smooth playability and a warm, rich tonal character. Featuring a comfortable Standard 59 neck, this guitar feels amazing to play on, measuring .850" at the 1st fret and .980" at 12th. A 9.5" compound radius feels naturally comfortable underhand and is paired with a 42mm bone nut width for a familiar feel. Fretted with Jescar 51100 frets.

Pickups: With a full compliment of Alnico 5 pickups, this model features JTG Retro and JTG Super humbuckers. The JTG Retro in neck has a warm, clean, PAF like tone with a smooth, creamy, classic voicing whilst the JTG Super in the bridge provides a strong low end, plenty of top-end sparkle, and excels in high-gain settings, making it ideal for rock and modern music styles.

Electronics: The control system features a 3-way toggle switch with individual master and tone controls for each pickup. Great for a player that wants quite a simple control layout but still with access to a wide variety of tones, making the guitar incredibly versatile.

Bridge and Hardware: The M1 is equipped with custom JTG hardware designed especially for these guitars. With a tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece and locking tuners, you get that perfect balance between vintage feel and modern standards of accurate intonation and tuning stability.

Case: The guitar comes with a Hardshell Case, providing premium protection and durability.

James Tyler guitars offer an exceptional experience in every aspect and the JTG range does not disappoint! Once you hold one, you'll instantly recognise the care and attention to detail put into every aspect of its design - it's as visually striking as it is sonically powerful. Whether you're a studio professional or a live performer, this guitar can handle anything from smooth clean tones to high-gain distortion with ease.
