This guitar is a clone of the red 1963 Gretsch Jet Firebird that was handed down to Malcolm from Harry Vanda and from him to Malcolm's elder brother George Young.
Malcolm took the original guitar and gutted it, removing two of the pickups and stripping the finish back. This was then aged the old fashioned way, played at countless shows giving it a few distinct battle scars along the way.
With a Maple top on a double cutaway chambered Mahogany body, the G6131-MY Jet is finished in aged Natural Satin with Black back and sides. The flagship model in the Gretsch Solid Body range, the Jet has a really rich harmonic power. By letting air resonate between the top and the body through its chambered Mahogany construction, the Jet has a super lively and articulate tone.
The Mahogany neck features a U profile, comfortable underhand and offering a great position for both heavy chordal work and more delicate lead playing. The 22 Jumbo frets bear the classic aged Pearloid Thumbnail inlays and give that familiar Gretsch aesthetic.
Loaded with a TV Jones Power-Tron you get vintage growl with superb clarity. This was the basis for some of Malcolm's most famous riffs. With a Space-Control bridge, bone nut and Schaller tuners, this guitar really does capture the essence of Malcolm Young's fiery rock n roll spirit!
