- Duane has to have this guitar, so he trades Rick the Gold top, $200 and a 50W Marshall Plexi head for it.

Duane's Guitars Go On
- Joe Marshall actively plays the '59 Cherry Sunburst around St. Louis.
- Joe replaces the machine heads with Schallers and one of the pickups with a '57 PAF from Duane's ES335.
- Around Galadrielle's 18th birthday, Joe returns the guitar to the family and it is eventually placed, along with "Hotlanta" in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

"During Duane Allmans short life and career, he created a legacy that continues to inspire generations of musicians. In the brief period of time it took him to cement his legend as one of the true greats. Duane Allmans guitar collection seemed like an ever-changing cast of Gibsons either traded or borrowed for brief periods of time. When Gibson Custom decided to recreate his 59 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul, unprecedented time and effort was taken to extensively research its history, interviewing friends of Duane and the Allman Brothers Band as well as previous owners of the guitar. What was uncovered is a fascinating story of what is proven to be Duanes most heard guitar.
Through a very limited run of guitars capturing the precise look, feel and tone of the original, Gibson present the Duane Allman Cherry Sunburst 59 Les Paul. Based on unrestricted access to and study of the original, Gibson Custom has recreated the details of this incredible instrument with uncompromised attention to detail and the highest standards of materials and craft. In addition to the guitar, a very special package of commemorative items are included to make ownership a lifelong and memorable event for the few who will have the pleasure of calling one of them their own.
"Like many of our Artist guitars, the Duane Allman 1959 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul is being crafted based on unrestricted access to the original.
What makes this particular guitar very unique is that we not only studied every angle, curve, and conceivable measure of it physically, but we also studied its history in great detail. Through extensive travel, interviews, and the cooperation of friends of Duane as well as previous owners of the guitar, we were able to piece together precisely when Duane acquired it, the albums and songs it was played on, and its colorful history that continued after Duanes untimely passing.
This research has revealed that Duanes 1959 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul is the most heard guitar from his career. Having appeared on the closing tracks of Layla and tracked on numerous Allman Brothers Band records, this is the guitar that the world was mostly hearing as Duanes legend grew."
