Music Man StingRay "Old Smoothie" BFR
Back in '76 Music Man released a bass that would become an instant classic, the Music Man StingRay. For 40 years it has been at the forefront of bass innovation and inspired some of the slickest grooves ever to hit the lower frequencies.
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the StingRay, Music Man released a special edition “Old Smoothie”, a classic reproduction of original prototype #26, a favourite during the design phase of the original StingRay build. Now this mega bass gets the BFR treatment! Ball Family Reserve models are the deliciously spec'd designs that maybe don't fit with style of production models, think of it as the private stock of Music Man. Limited to only 86 pieces worldwide, this is one bass you are not going to want to miss.
With a lush Alder body finished in majestic Trans Buttermilk, this StingRay looks a million dollars. The red tortoise shell pickguard is a classic touch and looks the business.
The Roasted Figured Maple neck is a joy to play, with a 34" scale length and 7.5" radius it feels comfortable underhand and so smooth. 21 Stainless Steel frets, a slick Rosewood board and a C shape profile make this a real players bass. It delivers at both ends of the fretboard, whether you are kicking out monster riffs or experimenting on the treble side, the Music Man StingRay will knock it out of the park.
The Music Man chrome plated bridge features stainless steel saddles and adjustable mute pads for when you want that real old school groove. The Old Smoothie humbucker is pure vintage tone, with elongated Alnico magnets and a 2 band active preamp this thing vibes like the very best. Smooth grooves all round.
