The Gibson 1933 L-00 Light Aged Ebony offers a balanced sound and vintage aesthetic in a small-bodied acoustic guitar. Developed in the early 1930s, the L-00 became a popular and enduring model. This reissue maintains the design elements that contributed to its original success. A key feature is its projection, often surpassing that of other small-bodied guitars. The tone is perfectly balanced, aligning with descriptions from Gibson's 1934 catalogue. This balance makes the L-00 suitable for home playing while retaining a full sound.
The guitar's construction includes a mahogany body (back and sides) paired with a thermally aged red spruce top. Red spruce bracing with hide glue reinforces the top. The neck is mahogany with a V profile and a 24.75-inch scale length. A rosewood fingerboard with a 12-inch radius and mother-of-pearl dot inlays contributes to playability. The nut is bone, with a width of 1.77 inches. The joint connecting the neck to the body is a compound dovetail.
The 1933 L-00's vintage appearance is achieved through the Murphy Lab's Light Aged finish. This treatment simulates light play wear on the nitrocellulose lacquer and hardware, replicating the look and feel of a well-preserved instrument from Gibson's Golden Era. The guitar features single-ply top binding, aged nickel hardware, and a rosewood rectangular open slot bridge with a bone saddle. Square end tuning machines with cream buttons and light ageing maintain the vintage aesthetic. An antique white pickguard, black stamped truss rod cover, and bone bridge pins complete the look. The guitar comes with a period-correct hardshell case, a Gibson accessory kit, and a certificate of authenticity. It is strung with .012-.053 gauge strings.
