Peach Guitars 10 Anniversary Commemorative Model - Tom Murphy Aged "Greeny" Alike
The story of Peach Guitars begins back in 1991 from a small unit in a Braintree Craft Centre. Specialising in both guitars and metal detectors, Peach offered a truly unique retail experience! It was during this period that owner Derek Peachey decided to recruit a young blues guitarist named John Priest. John worked tirelessly for Peach and slowly the focus shifted from metal detectors and Peach became a specialist guitar store. After a short time working on the road for a distributor, John returned to Peach, and when Derek decided to retire John and his father Alan, stepped up to run Peach Guitars as partners.

Oh boy have we got something special for you right here! But before we get into the details it’s best we start from the very beginning…

With an ever growing reputation, Peach Guitars became a serious name in the world of boutique guitars, offering the biggest and best brands in the business with a focus on excellent customer service and offering expert knowledge! It wasn’t long before Peach became a household name!
Back in 2016 to celebrate 10 years of John and Alan’s ownership Peach decided to celebrate in style and commissioned a select batch of eye-catching anniversary models. But the question in both of their minds was "What should these guitars be?" For John there was only really one answer. Now anyone who knows John will understand just how important Peter Green was to his guitar journey. With his iconic tone and virtuoso guitar playing Peter quickly became John’s very first guitar idol. Many years later John was very fortunate to buy a Gibson Custom Collector’s Choice CC#1 “Greeny”, a guitar he still owns to this very day! To pay homage to Peter and to celebrate Peach’s Journey John approached the Gibson Custom Shop with one question. "Can you create a a run of instruments that encompassed the spirit and vibe of Greeny?” A challenge they graciously accepted and believe us when we say they knocked it out of the park.
The Gibson Custom Peach Commemorative ’59 Les Paul began it’s life as one of Gibson’s truly incredible and revolutionary True Historic ’59 Les Paul’s. At the time this really was as close as you could get to an actual ’59 without breaking the bank! With a lightweight Mahogany body and figured Maple top this Les Paul is super resonant and is a real pleasure to play! One of this guitar’s defining features is the inclusion of Tom Murphy’s incredible ageing techniques. This model pre-dates the current Murphy Lab program and was genuinely hand aged by the master himself We've seen Tom in action many times, his skill and attention to details is truly astonishing! He did an incredible job at capturing the magic of Peter Green’s “Greeny”
The Mahogany neck feels incredible underhand and offers a comfortable and secure playing experience. These guitars feature the exact same neck profile as what was featured on Gibson’s original Collector’s Choice CC#1 release, so it really does offer the full “Greeny” experience. The Mahogany neck is topped with a crisp Rosewood fingerboard with classic Gibson Trapezoid inlays, this guitar looks every bit the real deal. With a 24.75 scale length it retains that classic Les Paul feel. One slight alteration made on this model was the inclusion of Grover tuners, which offer incredible tuning stability and performance.
The defining feature of this Peach Commemorative Les Paul is of course the pickup set. Back in 2016 Gibson’s Custombucker pickups were seen as the holy grail, something that still remains true to this day! In order to achieve “Greeny’s” iconic tonal voice John specifically asked for these models to feature a reverse mounted Neck humbucker, just like the Collector’s Choice CC#1. Trust us when we say this Les Paul does not disappoint. It’s beautifully dynamic and really allows every little nuance of your playing to shine though.
As we’re sure you can tell this guitar really does mean a whole lot to everyone involved with Peach Guitars. It takes us right back to the early days of the business and has brought back so many incredible memories. We hope this guitar's next owner enjoys it just as much as we have since re-uniting with it.
This guitar is used and is 1 of 5 aged Peach Commemorative Les Paul’s that were originally commissioned back in 2016. It features the original hardcase and COA. Due to the guitar’s ageing, it is impossible to determine factory ageing from Tom Murphy’s, but we can confirm that this beauty both looks and sounds amazing. If you’re looking for the full “Greeny” experience then this is for you!
