Friedman IR-D | Dual Valve Preamp & DI
High Voltage 2-Channel Dual Tube Preamp w/Boosts, DI, IR, Power Amp Simulation, Editing Software & MIDI Control
The Friedman IR-D is a dual-channel tube preamp that encapsulates the renowned Friedman tone in a pedalboard-friendly design. Powered by high-voltage 12AX7 preamp tubes, it delivers genuine tube warmth and harmonic complexity. It features two independent, identical channels for those dynamic Dirty Shirley tones, each with its boost circuit. The IR-D also offers cabinet and power amp simulation with a selection of IRs, and its editing software provides extensive tonal control, making it a powerful tool for crafting your sound.
The Friedman IR-D is a high-voltage dual-tube direct solution that condenses the essence of a full Friedman rig into a compact, pedalboard-friendly unit. What sets this pedal apart is its heart, powered by two high-voltage 12AX7 preamp tubes. Unlike many preamp pedals that simply aim to add a touch of tube warmth to digital or solid-state circuits, the IR-D is a genuine preamp in every sense. These glowing tubes, operating at the correct high voltage, bring to life the signature Friedman tone, complete with the expected response, gain characteristics, and harmonic complexity that define Dave Friedman's designs.
This dual-channel preamp offers versatility with its two fully independent foot-switchable channels. Much like the Twin Sisters amp, the IR-D holds 2 identical channels, each voiced after the legendary Dirty Shirley - a Friedman modded JTM45 circuit. The dynamic nature of this British vintage rock amp means that either channel can be used from clean to vintage crunch to high gain with the help of your guitar's volume knob. Both channels come equipped with their own independent and highly customisable boost circuits, effectively giving you access to four distinct channels with a simple tap of your foot.
One of the standout features of the IR-D is its impulse response (IR) cabinet and power amp simulation. With a choice of Dave Friedman's favourite IRs, this pedal ensures that your tone sounds as if it's emanating from a top-notch speaker cabinet. Whether you're sending your signal directly to the board or using the headphone output, you have the flexibility to select the IR per channel using convenient mini-toggle switches. If you prefer to use your custom IRs, the IR-D's editing software makes it a breeze. Plus, you can even bypass the onboard IRs entirely if you have another IR loader you prefer.
To further fine-tune your tone, the IR-D includes dedicated software that offers an astonishing level of control. The Friedman IR-D Editor software allows you to adjust each channel's power amp simulation using thump and presence controls, load your preferred IRs, activate the Boost Lock feature, toggle the loop on or off, and save it all to 128 MIDI presets. It's the ultimate tool for sculpting your ideal sound.
