For 2022 our good friends at the Fender Custom Shop are happy to announce a super limited run to celebrate this legendary venue and its contribution to the world of music! Hand crafted by Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Ron Thorn and limited to 25 sets world wide these really are Fender at there very best!
The El Mocambo Telecaster is fashioned from 300-year old eastern white pine reclaimed from the rafters between floors one and two during the massive reconstruction the venue received back in 2014. Each board was examined with a metal detector to locate and extract nails, and the extremely tight-grained old-growth timbers are light and extremely resonant, making for amazing body wood for these guitars. Masterbuilder Ron Thorn has carefully hand aged each model, making this a true rock ‘n roll relic!
The Roasted Quartersawn Maple used to construct each neck was carefully sourced from Canada and features a comfortable ’59 “D” neck shape. Thanks to the neck ageing each guitar already feels broken-in and ready for life on the road! The African Blackwood fingerboard is adorned with a 9.5” radius and 21 jumbo frets alongside a custom 1st fret inlay inspired by El Mocambo’s signature feature, the giant 22-foot sign on the front of the building since its original opening back in ’48-an enormous palm tree with “El Mocambo” spelled out in glowing neon letters beneath the cascading white lights of the tree’s moonlit leaves.
Loaded with a pair of Josefina Hand-Wound pickups this Tele sure does sing! With a Texas Special in the bridge and a Twisted Tel single coil in the neck it delivers all the classic tones you would expect from a Tele! Finished off with a ’58-’63 Tele bridge with Gatton Saddles, vintage-style tuners and a wing string tree.
Each guitar is complete with a custom El Mocambo hardshell case, strap, collectible case candy kit, and certificate of authenticity.
