Back in 1955, Gibson was preparing a small batch of unique instruments to display at the upcoming NAMM show. Displaying at NAMM is a super prestigious event, so Gibson sure was looking to impress. Every instrument taken by Gibson to the NAMM show featured a unique finish not found on other Gibson instruments at the time. And you guessed it, Joe’s 1955 Les Paul finished in “Copper Iridescent” was one of those guitars!
After many long months trying to work out the origin of Joes guitar our good friend at Gibson, Matt Koehler discovered 5 strange entries into the 1955 ledger, one of which being this very instrument! Copper Iridescent pretty much disappeared from the Gibson records, only briefly popping up in 56 & 72, that was until now!
The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1955 Les Paul Standard brings the magic of this truly legendary instrument to the masses! It features a resonant Mahogany body topped with a period correct Plain Grain Maple top/cap. Complete with a rare Copper Iridescent finish it beautifully replicates the unique visuals of Joes rare instrument. From a distance, the finish appears dark brown, but as you move closer, the gold flak becomes much more apparent.
The traditional Mahogany neck really adds to this guitars vintage vibe. It features a custom 59 Rounded C neck shape, which feels great to play and move about on. The Laurel fingerboard features period correct Trapezoid inlays, alongside a 43mm nut width, 22 frets and a 24.75 scale length.
With a pair of Epiphone P-90 PRO Soapbar pickups, this Les Paul nails that early 50s Les Paul sound. Theyre super dynamic and respond beautifully to every nuance of your playing, this is the perfect pickup set for a guitar of this nature. Complete with a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and a set of Epiphone Deluxe tuners.
