BOSS has introduced the Katana-50 EX Gen 3, an evolution of its acclaimed stage amplifier series designed to elevate guitarists' ambitions. Building on the core features of the Katana-50 Gen 3, this new model integrates advanced Tube Logic enhancements for superior sound, feel, and response. Guitarists will appreciate the new expressive Pushed amp character, perfect for edge-of-breakup tones, and an upgraded BOSS Tone Studio app that streamlines remote amp and effects editing.
The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 is a 50-watt combo amplifier featuring a custom 12-inch speaker optimised for stage performance. It stands out with its distinctive grey and black matrix grill. This model offers six amp characters, including the newly developed Pushed type, each with a selectable variation, totalling twelve distinctive tones. Additionally, it features five independent effects sections - Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb - each with three variations, providing a total of fifteen unique effects. Four Tone Setting memories allow for easy storage and recall of complete amp and effect setups.
A significant enhancement in the EX model is the upgraded speaker, designed for increased projection and resonance on stage. The integrated Power Control enables players to achieve cranked-amp tones at lower volumes without compromising sound quality, ideal for both live performances and quiet practice sessions.
The updated BOSS Tone Studio app enhances the user experience with a new interface that makes tone customisation more intuitive. It offers deep parameter controls, effect order adjustments, multiple EQ settings, and allows for saving and organising Livesets. Users can explore and customise the onboard effects from over 60 different types, and the app supports remote editing via the optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor.
Connectivity options in the Katana-50 EX Gen 3 are versatile. It includes a Power Amp In for preamps, modellers, and multi-effects, a Stereo Expand function to link a second Katana amp, a stereo headphones jack, a line output, and a USB output with IR-based cabinet sound for direct recording. The amp also supports footswitches and expression pedals, compatible with the GA-FC and GA-FC EX Foot Controllers, which provide extensive stage control capabilities. The GA-FC EX model allows for an expansion option to double the footswitches or control two Katana amps simultaneously.
For those looking to expand their creative range, the Stereo Expand function allows for linking two amps, creating a wide, immersive sound with stereo effects like chorus, delay, and reverb. The Power Amp In jack lets users bypass the Katana preamp to use the reactive Class AB power section with a modeller or external preamp.
With BOSS Tone Exchange, players can download and share Katana sounds globally. The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 includes connectivity options to suit every need, including practising with headphones, sending a direct feed to a PA system, and recording via USB-C with IR-based cabinet sound for high-quality direct tone.
