BOSS has unveiled the third generation of its acclaimed Katana stage amplifier series, which incorporate new Tube Logic enhancements that enrich sound, feel, and response, including a new Pushed amp character ideal for those who love the edge-of-breakup tone. The updated BOSS Tone Studio app offers a more intuitive workflow for remote amp and effects editing. With a host of inspiring tone tools and versatile connectivity options, Katana Gen 3 is positioned as an essential centrepiece for studio recording, live performance, and daily practice.
The Katana-100 Gen 3 model, equipped with 100 watts of Class AB power and a custom 12-inch speaker, delivers robust, stage-ready sound in an easy-to-carry 1x12 combo. The amplifier features six distinct amp characters, including the newly developed Pushed type, each offering a selectable variation for a total of twelve unique tones. Guitarists can further shape their sound using the three-way Contour control and three Cabinet Resonance options - Vintage, Modern, and Deep.
The Katana Gen 3 also includes five independent effects sections: Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb, each with three variations, providing access to fifteen unique effects. The integrated Power Control allows players to achieve cranked-amp tone at lower volumes, making it ideal for both live stage performances and bedroom practice sessions.
The updated BOSS Tone Studio app enhances the tone customisation experience with a newly designed interface for easier navigation and deeper parameter controls. Users can fine-tune the amp's effects from over 60 different types, adjust the effect order, and employ multiple EQ settings to craft their desired sound. Additionally, the app provides detailed amp and effect editing tools and allows users to save and organise Livesets for various playing applications.
Connectivity options are extensive, including a Power Amp In for preamps, modellers, and multi-effects, as well as a Stereo Expand function to link a second Katana amp for a wide, immersive sound. Other features include a send/return loop for external pedals, a stereo headphones jack, a line output, and a USB output with IR-based cabinet sound for direct recording. The amplifier supports footswitches and expression pedals, with compatibility for the GA-FC and GA-FC EX Foot Controllers for comprehensive stage control.
With BOSS Tone Exchange, players can download and share Katana sounds with the worldwide community. The optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor (BT-DUAL) facilitates wireless audio playback from mobile devices and remote editing via the BTS app on iOS and Android.
