Description

So here we have a piece of fine craftsmanship! It's a new Mesa Boogie Signature edition John Petrucci JP-2C head. This one is blinged out with an Oxblood finished flame maple panel at the front, as well as mother of pearl logos, the bezel on the amp is a sleek looking gun metal grey and last but not least a certification plate signed by John Petrucci himself, as well as Randall Smith. But asides from the aesthetic, what of the sound and features?

This amp is making some serious waves from NAMM with initial reviews being positively glowing!

A new John Petrucci inspired JP-2C takes the legend of the II-C+ Mark series to new places. A culmination of 30 years of partnership with John Petrucci and even more years of product research and development knowledge too.

Made in Petaluma in California from only the highest grade materials. It's loaded with 4 x 6L6 Power tubes and 5 x 12AX7 Preamp tubes.

It's contains a class A/B Power amp which provides a shed load of clarity and punch when needed, and the 100/60 Watt selectable global power switch allows to stepping up and down it's output to suit where the amp is being played. It's a fixed biased amp too making maintenance not a problem.

The JP-2C has 3 completely independent channels with 5 modes:

  • Channel 1 Features: Mark IIC+ Clean - Independent Gain, Treble, Mid/Boost (patent applied for; doubles as a standard Midrange Tone Control from 1 to 5 AND a Variable Gain Boost Control from 5 to 10, providing precise levels of sweet harmonic overdrive, from subtle to blistering), Bass, Presence, Reverb (rear panel), Assignment Switch for Dual 5-Band Graphic EQs (EQ 1 or EQ 2 - On, Off or Footswitchable) & Master Controls
  • Channel 2 Features: Legendary Mark IIC+ Lead or Shred Modes - Independent Gain w/Pull Gain Boost, Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence w/Pull Frequency Shift, Reverb (rear panel), Assignment Switch for Dual 5-Band Graphic EQs (EQ 1 or EQ 2 - On, Off or Footswitchable) & Master Controls
  • Channel 3 Features: Legendary Mark IIC+ Lead or Shred Modes - Independent Gain w/Pull Gain Boost, Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence w/Pull Frequency Shift, Reverb (rear panel), Assignment Switch for Dual 5-Band Graphic EQs (EQ 1 or EQ 2 - On, Off or Footswitchable) & Master Controls

2 5-band graphic EQ both of which are foot switchable or channel assignable, making the tonal possibilities on this amp almost limitless.

As you'd expect it's also sporting a proper long tank all-tube spring reverb with independant channel control too.

The JP-2C includes the CabClone cabinet simulator technology as well allowing for all manner of additional tonal tweaks and making the head usable without a cab in a studio or home environment.

We are excited to see this one, Mesa Boogie are on a run of making very good products at the moment, and this might just be their crowning glory so far!
