TAD Premium Selected Power Valves | 6L6WGC-STR Redbase Small Bottle - Matching Quartet
High Performance Audio Beam Power Pentode
The TAD 6L6WGC-STR REDBASE is a glass envelope beam pentode with a plate dissipation rating of 30 Watts with convection cooling. It is intended for audio frequency power amplification service in either pentode, ultra-linear or triode connection and single ended or push-pull/parallel applications.
It is designed to be a direct replacement for any 6L6GC/5881 or equivalent. Close manufacturing specification tolerances, gold grid wire, improved processing and final testing and QC at TAD in Germany provides enhanced reliability, superior sonic performance and grants overall consistency. It provides electrical and audio performance very similar to that of the original GE 6L6GC clear-top.

The TAD 6L6WGC-STR REDBASE clear top - small bottle - absolute vintage style! Expect juicy mids, tight bass and airy, easy-to-listen to top end.
This is the perfect choice for vintage tweed and blackface amps such as the 1960s Bassman, Twin, Showman or Super Reverb. The complex midrange and sweet heights are a class of its own. It is TAD's recommendation for classic tone with warm cleans and rich, sweet mids when pushed. Great for fat jazz or blues tones and their favourite in all open back combo amplifiers.
This valve is a remake of the small bottle GE6L6GC and has the same warm lower midrange and silky top end as the classic GE versions of the 1950s and 60s. Like the historic RCA 5881, this valve features a small bottle enclosure, clear top and side getter. It features TAD's exclusive beefed up cathode coating, gold grid wire, double getter construction, no-noise filaments and 1.2mm thick heavy duty glass. This tube is only 84mm high (seated height without pins) and can replace 5881 or 6L6WGB tubes in most applications.
This valve is part of TAD's Redbase series, which combines the latest manufacturing technologies with traditional design and flawless quality. The TAD Redbase series is exclusively built on a TAD production line that has been optimised especially for the TAD Redbase series. At TAD in Germany, the tubes of the STR series receive a special, additional burn-in treatment and formatting process in preparation for the TAD Premium-Matching, which optimises the quality of the cathode emission and opens up an exceptionally detailed sound structure.
Another advantage of this valve is that it is part of TAD's Premium Selected series. All power tubes labelled as such have passed the following tests:
- Plate Current (PC) and Amplification (TC)
- Low Noise Test
- Microphonic Test
- Sonic Tests
- Shock Tests
- Listening Tests
- Shorts & Leakage Tests
This quartet is part of TAD's Premium Matching range, which means they have identical Plate Current (PC) and Transconductance (TC).
