Strung with D'Addario EXP16 strings, this guitar is ideal for both beginners and experienced players seeking exceptional construction and sound.
In the late 1960s, US guitar manufacturers faced competition from affordable, Japanese-made guitars that closely resembled American models, challenging their market dominance. To address this, American companies introduced Sigma Guitars in 1970. These acoustic guitars were crafted by skilled workers in efficient Japanese factories and inspected in the US before being sold. Sigma Guitars quickly earned a reputation for exceptional quality in construction and sound, gaining a dedicated fan base. As a result, second-hand models are rarely available as owners are reluctant to part with them.
The Sigma 1 Series DM-1 is a prime example of this legacy. Its body size is D-14 fret, providing a classic and versatile shape suitable for various playing styles. The dovetail neck joint ensures a strong connection between the neck and body, enhancing the guitar's resonance and durability. The top is made from solid Sitka spruce, known for its excellent tonal qualities and projection, while the back and sides are crafted from mahogany, adding warmth and depth to the sound.
The mahogany neck features a low-profile design for comfortable playability, and the nut and saddle are made from bone, which contributes to the guitar's superior tone and sustain. The fingerboard and bridge are made from Micarta, a durable and stable material that offers smooth playability. With a scale length of 25.4" (645 mm) and a neck width at the nut of 1-11/16" (42.9 mm), the Sigma DM-1 accommodates a variety of playing techniques.
The guitar is equipped with a two-way truss rod, allowing for precise adjustments to maintain optimal neck alignment. Chrome diecast tuning machines provide reliable and accurate tuning stability. The high-gloss finish not only enhances the guitar's appearance but also protects the wood. The Sigma DM-1 comes strung with D'Addario EXP16 strings, known for their durability and rich tone.
Overall, the Sigma 1 Series DM-1 offers a combination of high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and seasoned players looking for a reliable and great-sounding acoustic guitar.
