A dropped guitar can mean disaster, which is why Schaller developed their innovative Security Locks in 1981, setting a new standard for strap security. In 2018, Schaller raised the bar again with the introduction of the S-Locks, a next-generation system designed for unparalleled safety, silent operation, and user-friendly design.
The S-Locks represent a culmination of meticulous engineering, combining three key components into a harmonious and robust system: a unique one-piece hardened steel strap button, an ergonomically designed lock suitable for various strap thicknesses, and a patented Lock-Wheel featuring a triple security architecture.
The S-Locks Strap Button: Strength and Protection
The S-Locks strap button boasts a unique one-piece construction, simplifying installation with a standard 3mm (1/8") Allen key. This one-piece design eliminates potential weak points found in multi-piece buttons, providing superior strength and reliability. The button features a specialised 4.0mm wood thread (size M) for maximum grip and secure attachment to the guitar. For those with specific needs, sizes S (3.5mm) and L (4.5mm) are optionally available, though the medium size is the most common and versatile. Crafted from the hardest steel available, these buttons offer exceptional wear resistance and long-lasting performance. To protect your instrument's finish, high-grade felt washers are included, preventing scratches and ensuring a pristine appearance.
The S-Locks Improved Lock: Enhanced Functionality and Durability
The S-Locks lock has been significantly improved to accommodate a wider range of strap thicknesses, now capable of holding straps up to 6mm thick thanks to an extended thread length. A newly designed slanted locking bolt, made of durable stainless steel, minimises wear and tear, further enhancing the system's longevity and reliability. The redesigned pull-up ball provides improved ergonomics and a more comfortable grip, making strap changes quick and easy. The lock is designed to fit a standard 10mm hole in the strap.
The Improved S-Locks-Wheel: Triple-Stage Security
The heart of the S-Locks system is the innovative Lock-Wheel, incorporating a three-stage safety concept for ultimate peace of mind. The Lock-Wheel itself features a special patented thread that ensures a secure hold, allowing for safe hand tightening without the need for tools. For even greater security, the 2-hole mount (compatible with a 2mm Allen key or screwdriver) allows for increased tightening torque, providing maximum hold. Finally, an undetachable hold is ensured by a grub screw with a tapered cap and a 2.5 x 5mm slot, made of stainless steel. This ingenious design prevents accidental loosening. Should you need to remove the Lock-Wheel, simply unscrew the set screw; the thread remains functional and "cuts itself free" again through the Lock-Wheel.
