Design and Inspiration
The A-Type's design draws heavily from the sleek lines of classic cars, hot rods, and surfboards, reflecting the vibrant cultural milieu of San Diego's North County. This region's rich mix of surfing, skateboarding, auto craft, music, art, and architecture profoundly influenced Powers' creative process. The result is an asymmetrical yet visually balanced guitar that looks stunning from every angle. This fully enclosed, slim hollowbody design combines timeless styling with modern embellishments, making it as beautiful as it is functional.
Playability and Comfort
The Powers Electric A-Type is designed with the player's comfort in mind. Its lightweight, hollow body ensures ease of handling whether standing or sitting, while the contoured armrest and radiused body edges enhance playing comfort. The neck offers a perfect blend of size and smooth transition into the unique split radius fretboard. This asymmetrical fretboard, which is flatter on the treble side, allows for effortless string bending and maximum playability, ensuring that players can explore fresh ideas and sound more like themselves.
Sound Quality and Innovation
This specific model of the A-Type features PF42 (partial Faraday) pickups, designed to produce a firm, bright sound. The guitar's trussed hollowbody, with internal soundposts and a braced solid-wood top, maximises resonance and lyrical sustain while suppressing feedback.
