Peach Guitars | Which Gibson Les Paul is for you?
The Gibson Les Paul, guitar royalty. There’s not much that can be said about this legendary instrument that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before. Arguably the most important guitar design of all-time, it’s held its position at the top of the tree for over 70 years, and with no signs of being toppled anytime soon, it’s easy to suggest it’ll remain at the top for another 70. The intricate design of those sweeping contours, the iconic burst finishes, the power and clarity of the humbuckers, the Les Paul is often imitated but rarely bettered, there’s just something about a USA Gibson that makes them hard to beat.
So it’s only natural to want one for yourself, but with so many options available it can be a little overwhelming when trying to decide which one is right for you.
We’ve got an incredible range of USA Gibson Les Paul’s, all individually photographed and with our own unique videos. We aim to give you the most comprehensive overview of each guitar here at Peach Guitars, we even provide the weight for each individual guitar!
Here’s a rundown of each USA model and why they might be right for you!
First up, the Gibson USA Les Paul Standard ‘50s. Bringing the magic of those original run Les Paul’s, the ‘50s Standard delivers everything you expect and love about the Les Paul. A Mahogany body, a Maple cap and a selection of stunning but tasteful burst finishes. The ‘50s model does NOT feature any weight relief, you get full fat Mahogany here and the weight to match! The neck carve is a little fatter too, no slim profile but equally it’s not an absolute baseball bat. It’s comfortable and easy underhand, exactly what you’d want. The ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece offer an authentic ‘50s feel and is the bridge of choice on Custom Shop models!
Vintage style Kluson tuners double up with the bridge to provide incredible tuning stability and intonation. A pair of Burstbucker 1&2 pickups, with a slightly lower output than the ‘60s models, kick out those smooth grooves and crisp overdriven tones. Some of the most highly sought after PAF pickups around, the Burstbuckers are a really popular choice and really take this guitar to the next level.
If you’re looking for something a little more modern with a little more grunt in the trunk, then the ‘60s Standard is the one for you!
What’s that, a killer flame maple top? Yep, and a slightly more refined and arguably more popular selection of burst finishes. You get that same iconic Mahogany and Maple dream team pairing, but this time you do get a little bit of weight relief, it doesn’t compromise on tone but it does offer a touch of relief for your back!
The ‘60s saw a new era of rock music and players had a different set of requirements heading into this next generation. The Les Paul evolved to feature a thinner neck carve, perfect for those soaring lead lines and rapid legato. Tonally, players were craving a little more fire and attack, and so the humbuckers utilised here are Burstbucker 61R and 61T pickups. With a sharper treble end, punchier midrange and better note definition, they honour this golden era with an incredible array of tones!
Fancy something different but still with that true Les Paul vibe, well, the Gibson Les Paul '70s Deluxe is certainly that! Again, the Deluxe has all the classic features of a Les Paul, Mahogany body, Maple top and Rosewood fingerboard but there are a few key differences over the ‘60s Standard. The Deluxe features a slick Rounded C profile, super comfortable and stable, it’s a great player. Vintage Keystone tuners take the place of the ‘60s Grover Rotomatics and perhaps most crucially, the Deluxe features a pair of outrageous mini humbuckers. Slightly hotter and a little less rounded than the Burstbuckers, the mini humbuckers offer a really nice, alternative take on the Les Paul sound.
We’re really proud of our selection and variety of Gibson USA Les Paul’s and our comprehensive overview of each guitar means that you can select your guitar based on the criteria that is most important to you. There are no secrets here, the guitar you pick is the guitar you’ll receive.
