Fender have never shied away from change, and never ignored an opportunity to develop, refine and push their iconic designs into the modern era. We saw that with the release of the American Professional II range, and more recently, the American Ultra and Ultra Luxe series. 

These modern refinements and premium appointments, such as stainless steel frets, noiseless pickups and even Floyd Rose trems, quickly found favour with players hoping to push their musical horizons that little bit further. They were however, restricted solely to Fender’s USA built offerings, this attitude to modern functionality not yet filtering down through the more affordable Fender lines.

That is, until the Fender Player Plus line dropped in 2021!

Much like the Ultra Luxe series, the Player Plus is not a replacement for the Player range, but an embellishment, an additional set of instruments designed to satisfy even the most extreme of needs!

Crafted in Fender's Ensenada, Mexico facility, the Player Plus range boasts a roster of Strats, Teles, Precision and Jazz basses and even the radical Fender Meteora. But how are they different from the Standard Player line? Well, let us fill you in!

The Player line comes equipped with Fender standard Alnico pickups, a great option for those looking for a slight vintage flavour, the Player Plus however, comes with the newly designed Fender Noiseless pickups. With crystal clear note definition and clarity, zero hum and a really balanced frequency range, the Noiseless pickups are an obvious and considered upgrade.

In addition to the Fender Noiseless pickups, the Player Plus range features enhanced switching options. On the Strat and Nashville Telecaster models you can add in the neck pickup at positions 1 and 2, split the humbucker on the HSS Strat and activate “series” mode on the standard Telecaster, offering even greater tonal variety and performance. 

The tonal enhancements don't stop there either, with each Player Plus model benefitting from a Treble-Bleed circuit. A simple and popular aftermarket mod, it ensures that all of that glorious high end sparkle remains when you turn the volume down to lower levels. 

The neck is another key area to receive some notable upgrades. With rolled fingerboard edges, you get a real premium feel, often reserved for much higher price point guitars, the rolled fingerboard offers total comfort! We’re also treated to a slightly more modern, flatter radius. Typically the Player Series features a 9.5” radius as standard, the Player Plus benefits from a 12” radius, faster and suitable for lower actions, it’s a great touch.
