Peach Guitars | Spotlight | Ernie Ball Music Man
Leo Fender, Les Paul, Jim Marshall, Seymour Duncan…..icons of guitar, pioneers who pushed boundaries and consistently broke new ground, the forefathers of everything we know and love about electric guitars. This list however, would not be complete without the inclusion of Ernie Ball, a true industry great whose legacy extends far beyond his notoriety as a legendary string connoisseur.
Under the guidance of Ernie Ball and the Ball family, Music Man have charted their trajectory towards guitar immortality. With a product line that is as refreshing as it is innovative, and an artist roster that is the envy of most rivals, Music Man has never been content to rest on the ideas of previous generations. Constant evolution, precision craftsmanship and a symbiotic relationship between the company and their artists have seen Music Man deliver some of the most iconic guitars of recent times.
We could wax lyrical about pretty much every guitar on the Music Man roster, and trust me, we do, but for the purposes of this blog, we’d like to draw your attention to 3 of the very best. 3 guitars that encapsulate everything that Music Man stands for, each with their own unique features and distinct flavour.
The first guitar needs little introduction, a long time artist and a staple in the roster, the Music Man Albert Lee offers clarity, punch and deliciously snappy country twang. Albert Lee is widely regarded as one of the finest players around, he’s played with anyone who’s anyone and his technique is impeccable. This BFR (Ball Family Reserve) model brings some razzle dazzle to what is often considered one of the most comfortable and versatile guitars around. Boasting an okoume body, roasted figured maple neck and a Limited Edition Cherry Punch finish, it looks every bit as good as it sounds, and man, does it sound great! BFR models are the pinnacle of Music Man production, made in limited quantities, they are the realised vision of guitars that maybe don’t quite fit with the standard production run profile. You’d be hard pressed to find another of this particular model available, and certainly not at this price!
Annie Clark, or St Vincent as she is more commonly known, is something of an enigma. A supremely talented musician, she’s constantly reinventing herself and her music is a vibrant explosion of chaos and melancholy. Her signature line perfectly reflects her genius and it’s a real statement piece in the Music Man line up. Highly contoured and supremely comfortable, it’s firebird-esque but with a finesse and elegance that only Music Man can deliver. 3 custom Music Man gold-foil mini humbuckers offer an expansive tonal palette, check out Jack’s video demo below for a taste of what the St Vincent is all about.
Is the Music Man Valentine the most underrated guitar ever? Probably, and let me tell you why! Released at NAMM 2016, where it was rightly crowned “Best in Show”, the Music Man Valentine straddles that tricky ground between Telecaster snap and Les Paul power with ease. With a custom wound single coil at the bridge and a humbucker at the neck; you get a really nice balance of tones, great for adding texture and nuance. There's a gain boost on the volume pot you can bump up for solos and lead licks, while the tone control doubles up as a coil-tap to split the humbucker and provide more glistening single coil tones. What an absolute tonal goliath! When they look as good as this one does in Champagne Sparkle, you’re sure to turn heads wherever you’re playing!
