The hottest tour of the year was announced last week, and that can only mean one thing, John Mayer is back on the road!

Although he won’t be bringing his new solo tour to our fair shores this time around, it does present us with a great opportunity to highlight one of the guitars that he might just be using as he dazzles the States with his one man show!

Mayer has long been associated with Martin guitars, you might recall him playing a couple during the acoustic segment of his hallowed “Where the Light is” shows, and this is by no means the first release to bear his name. It’s just the next phase in a long and fruitful relationship between maker and creator. 

As you would expect with a player of Mayer’s calibre, every element of this guitar has been so well thought out and considered. The Engelmann Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides, both features of previous Mayer models, work in harmony for the tonewood partnership from your dreams. It’s warm, rich and there’s a real depth to its tone, which is sometimes lacking in an OM body shape.

The neck is crafted from Spanish Cedar and benefits from a carved, diamond volute, 1-11/16" width, and low profile shape for easy fretting and maximum comfort. With a Black African Ebony fingerboard, featuring a really unique 12th fret inlay and mother of pearl John Mayer signature inlay, there’s no mistaking that this is a guitar for a classy player. The small details have been crafted with such precision and every design detail, whether aesthetic or functional, has the same level of care and attention applied.

A Fishman Gold Plus Natural pickup system comes pre-installed and offers unbelievable clarity and note definition, it doesn’t colour the natural tone of the guitar it just amplifies it. The vintage style Geib hard case comes embroidered with Mayer’s traditional art deco-inspired monogram while each guitar in this series bears an interior label imprinted with the signatures of John Mayer and Martin Chairman C. F. Martin IV, and individually numbered in sequence. 

It’s an absolute stunner and one that will find favour with many players, not just John Mayer fans. Mayer knows a thing or 2 about great guitars and his input, alongside the years of elite craftsmanship and experience on offer from Martin, has resulted in one of the most impeccable guitars you’ll feast your eyes on this year.
