Mythos Pedals has introduced a new addition to their lineup, the Envy Pro Overdrive NV-9, an exciting reinterpretation of the legendary green overdrive circuit that has influenced guitar tone for decades. Zach, the mastermind behind Mythos and a known aficionado of the Tube Screamer circuit, designed the Envy Pro with his favourite modifications to improve versatility and tonal flexibility. While it maintains the heart of the original 808 circuit, it expands the possibilities for players who want more control over their sound.
The Envy Pro Overdrive starts with a familiar 3-knob layout - Drive, Tone, and Level - but introduces enhancements that make it stand out. A socketed RC4558P op-amp chip allows for easy swapping, making this pedal a customisable tool for the more adventurous guitarist. Two push-button switches offer additional tonal options. The 'Lows' switch boosts bass frequencies and decreases the midrange for a fuller, rounder sound. Meanwhile, the 'Clip' button toggles between the standard symmetrical soft clipping or removing the clipping diodes entirely, resulting in a louder, more dynamic sound with enhanced headroom and openness.
Another key enhancement in the Envy Pro is the expanded Drive range, which now allows for lower-gain tones at minimum and more saturated overdrive at maximum settings. The Level control has been refined to give a greater output range, while the overall voicing of the pedal provides a slightly fuller sound, making it perfect for a wide variety of musical styles.
The pedal ships in Zach's preferred configuration, with both push buttons in the 'up' position - yielding a classic TS-style tone with normal bass response and no clipping diodes engaged. Players can engage the 'Lows' button to add bottom end and balance out the sound, while engaging the 'Clip' button brings back the familiar soft clipping for a more traditional overdrive sound.
