The Mythos Pedals Envy Pro Overdrive NV-9 is a modern, customisable take on the classic 808 overdrive circuit. Designed by Zach, a noted fan of the Tube Screamer, the Envy Pro features expanded control with a broader Drive range, two push buttons for adjusting bass response and clipping modes, and a socketed op-amp for easy chip swaps. With increased output, versatility, and tonal options, the Envy Pro is a refined yet familiar overdrive pedal that offers both classic tones and enhanced flexibility, making it a must-have for guitarists looking to expand their sound. Read on below for further details on another winning addition to the Mythos lineup.
Mythos Pedals has introduced a new addition to their lineup, the Envy Pro Overdrive NV-9, an exciting reinterpretation of the legendary green overdrive circuit that has influenced guitar tone for decades. Zach, the mastermind behind Mythos and a known aficionado of the Tube Screamer circuit, designed the Envy Pro with his favourite modifications to improve versatility and tonal flexibility. While it maintains the heart of the original 808 circuit, it expands the possibilities for players who want more control over their sound.
The Envy Pro Overdrive starts with a familiar 3-knob layout - Drive, Tone, and Level - but introduces enhancements that make it stand out. A socketed RC4558P op-amp chip allows for easy swapping, making this pedal a customisable tool for the more adventurous guitarist. Two push-button switches offer additional tonal options. The 'Lows' switch boosts bass frequencies and decreases the midrange for a fuller, rounder sound. Meanwhile, the 'Clip' button toggles between the standard symmetrical soft clipping or removing the clipping diodes entirely, resulting in a louder, more dynamic sound with enhanced headroom and openness.
Another key enhancement in the Envy Pro is the expanded Drive range, which now allows for lower-gain tones at minimum and more saturated overdrive at maximum settings. The Level control has been refined to give a greater output range, while the overall voicing of the pedal provides a slightly fuller sound, making it perfect for a wide variety of musical styles.
The pedal ships in Zach's preferred configuration, with both push buttons in the 'up' position - yielding a classic TS-style tone with normal bass response and no clipping diodes engaged. Players can engage the 'Lows' button to add bottom end and balance out the sound, while engaging the 'Clip' button brings back the familiar soft clipping for a more traditional overdrive sound.
What sets the Envy Pro apart from its predecessors is the combination of flexibility and simplicity. By focusing on enhancing key aspects of the classic design - like drive range, bass response, and clipping options - Mythos has created a pedal that doesn't reinvent the wheel but certainly refines it. With four unique combinations of sounds available just from the two push buttons, the Envy Pro gives players the ability to shape their tone to meet their exact preferences.
Zach's deep love and understanding of the Tube Screamer circuit is evident in every aspect of the Envy Pro Overdrive. It's an ode to the past, with an eye on modern players' needs. Whether you're looking for classic drive tones or something with a little more versatility and openness, the Envy Pro provides an impressive, professional-quality overdrive that will elevate any rig.
