The Knaggs Severn Trem SSS is a meticulously crafted instrument that showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that Knaggs Guitars is renowned for. This guitar was custom-built for Danny Dela Cruz, a highly respected session guitarist known for his work with Thrxnes and as a JTC Guitar artist. Danny shared that it's a killer guitar, but he simpler prefers instruments with larger necks than this one. Despite this, he certainly enjoyed it for a few years as the guitar clearly shows signs of use, with a unique and appealing worn-in aesthetic that comes from someone playing like they mean it.
Body and Neck:
The Severn Trem SSS features a stunning white finish that complements the guitar's elegant design. The body is constructed from alder, a tonewood prized for its balanced sound and versatility. The neck is made from beautifully-flamed maple, a wood renowned for its brightness, sustain, and stability. The maple fingerboard is adorned with black diamond inlays, adding a touch of luxury and visual interest.
The back of the headstock is signed by Joe Knaggs and dedicated to DDC.
Hardware and Electronics:
The Severn Trem SSS is equipped with high-quality hardware that enhances both its performance and appearance. The guitar features Gotoh tuners, known for their precision and reliability. A graphite nut provides smooth string action and reduces friction. Dunlop strap buttons offer a secure and comfortable fit.
The Severn Trem SSS controls are as you'd expect - a five-way switch that allows for a wide range of tonal possibilities and three control knobs - volume, tone, and tone.
Pickups:
The Severn Trem SSS is equipped with a Bare Knuckle Trilogy Suite of pickups. These high-output single-coil pickups deliver a powerful, modern tone reminiscent of a P90, with a deep, resonant bass, wide midrange, and a contemporary voice.
Designed for players seeking a departure from vintage tones, the Trilogy Suite offers the character and extended frequency response of a traditional single-coil, enhanced by modern polysol wire and Alnico V rods. This combination results in a high-output Strat set with a distinctly modern character.
The pickups' slightly compressed dynamics contribute to incredible sustain, particularly when paired with an overdriven amplifier. The result is a rich, saturated tone with abundant harmonic overtones. Even with substantial preamp gain, the highs remain full and clear, while the lows are defined and focused.
When the overdrive is reduced, the Trilogy Suite cleans up beautifully, allowing for a wide range of modern clean tones with careful adjustment of the volume pot.
Playability:
The Severn Trem SSS is designed for optimal playability. The guitar's neck profile is comfortable and easy to play, making it suitable for both lead and rhythm playing. The guitar's weight is well-balanced, ensuring that it feels comfortable to play for extended periods. It will come with a meticulous setup having been done by Peach Guitars expert luthiers.
