When the SG debuted back in '61 it was considered pretty radical for the time, with its thin body and no nonsense styling, it clearly focussed on raw power and playability. Quickly becoming a fan favourite with players like Pete Townshend, the SG found itself a permanent member of the Gibson roster. The Gibson SG Special is the stripped back younger brother to the original SG's. And they don't come any better than this, the Gibson Custom 1963 SG Special.
With the classic all Mahogany, super slim design, the SG Special is the same tone machine we all know and love. The medium C shaped Mahogany neck is topped with a lush Indian Rosewood fingerboard to complete the tonewood dream team. Unlike normal all Mahogany guitars, the SG is super light thanks to its thinline profile and simplistic design.
With a pair of Gibson Custom Soapbar P-90 pickups it offers more bite, a sweeter single coil tone and a more versatile overall sound. Perfect for players that want to have greater control over their tone, the Gibson P-90 is a hot, raw but perfectly rounded pickup choice. It sounds as smooth as it is gnarly. This version features the incredible period correct lightning bar wraparound tailpiece, the perfect compliment to this no frills powerhouse!
