The C12 Spruce is made by hand in a boutique and small workshop and features solid rosewood back and sides. It is a concert-level instrument that features the best of modern and traditional guitar construction. The top on this beautiful classical guitar is a classic choice - solid spruce. However, this is the first model that Cordoba have used lightweight lattice bracing for as opposed to fan-bracing. This bracing is more modern, pioneered in the late 1970s as opposed to fan bracing which is from the 19th century. Due to the strength of lattice bracing, it allows the top of the guitar to be thinner which results in it being lighter and more responsive to the energy coming from the strings.
The ebony fingerboard on the C12 Spruce is elevated. A feature that luthier-made classical guitars often employ, it is designed to give excellent access to the higher frets. They are often created by having the top of the guitar sloped down or sometimes by having a negative neck angle compared to the body of the guitar. Some classical guitarists prefer this design to the point of only playing guitars with raised fingerboards.
This particular instrument has a nut width of 52mm, a C-shaped neck with a flat fingerboard and 12 frets to the body. Clearly this guitar is designed for the more traditional and experienced classical player and as such makes for an excellent all-solid classical at a great price.
The guitar is fitted with a two-way truss rod so that the neck can be adjusted over time, if needed or desired. It ships with a high-quality set of Savarez strings and a polyfoam case that offers excellent protection whilst still being very light. Extra touches of beauty are added in the form of a pearloid 1920s style rosette, a high-gloss finish, matched maple binding and a stunning wedge of flamed maple on the back of the instrument.
