The BOSS CS-3 Compression Sustainer pedal is a device designed to modify the dynamics of an instrument's signal. Its primary function is to reduce the volume of loud signals and increase the volume of quiet signals, resulting in a more consistent and even sound output. This process, known as compression, is intended to provide a smoother and more sustained tone without significantly altering the original sonic characteristics of the instrument.
The pedal is equipped with four control knobs: Level, Tone, Attack, and Sustain. The Level knob adjusts the overall output volume of the processed signal. The Tone knob allows for adjustment of the signal's tonal balance, affecting the high-frequency content. The Attack knob controls the speed at which the compression effect engages, influencing the initial transient response of the signal. The Sustain knob determines the length of time the notes are held, extending the duration of the sound.
The CS-3 is designed with a low-noise circuit, which aims to minimise unwanted background noise during operation. This feature is particularly beneficial in recording and live performance settings where a clean signal is essential. The pedal's compact design allows for integration into pedalboard setups with limited space. The unit accommodates standard instrument input and output connections. It is powered by a 9V battery or a compatible power supply. The pedal is suitable for use with both guitar and bass instruments.
