21 Nov 2023

Greeny is maybe the most high profile guitar of all-time. Under the ownership of current custodian, Kirk Hammett, we’ve had multiple variations and tributes to this iconic Les Paul, including a super limited run Murphy Lab version and a stand alone set of “Greenybucker” pickups!

So it’s about time that Greeny got the full Epiphone treatment! And here it is, the BRAND NEW Epiphone Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard, the most wallet friendly Greeny yet!

Originally owned by the legendary Peter Green, Greeny, a ‘59 Les Paul, made its debut with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers on the seminal 1967 album “A Hard Road”. The album was a huge success and brought into focus the talismanic skills of Peter Green, who along with bass player John McVie, would depart the Bluesbreakers to form Fleetwood Mac.

“Oh Well”, “Black Magic Woman”, “Albatross”, the Greeny and Peter Green duo delivered some of the greatest moments of blues rock history while with Fleetwood Mac. In 1970 however, Peter Green sold the guitar to a young up and comer by the name of Gary Moore.

We all know the story, so let’s check out the guitar!

With a Mahogany body and AAA Flame Maple Veneer top, finished in Greeny Burst, Greeny looks every bit the classic ‘59. The colouring and quality of the top really pop and you can’t take your eyes off it!

The neck is crafted from Mahogany and features an Indian Laurel board, 22 frets and a custom Greeny profile. It’s super comfortable and well balanced, I dare you not to burst into a Fleetwood Mac or Thin Lizzy riff when you pick one up!

Greeny’s tonal dominance all stemmed from reverse mounted neck pickups. Peter Green was looking to emulate Eric Clapton’s tone and removed the neck pickup only to put it back in back to front! This resulted in a super sweet out-of-phase tone that pretty much everybody has tried to replicate. The Gibson USA Greenybuckers, with Reversed Magnetic Polarity and Reverse Mounted at the neck, truly do capture that incredible sound.

You’re going to see a lot of this guitar in the coming months, it’s going to be everywhere, but the only place you need to come for info and videos is right here! So keep your eyes peeled!
