New Release | Epiphone Jim James ES-335!
Jim James, a man of seemingly limitless talent. Chief songwriter, guitarist and vocalist of Louisville, Kentucky megastars, My Morning Jacket, James’ sound and vision encompasses rock, americana and at times can be considered highly experimental!
You might remember around this time last year, Gibson USA dropped a super cool Jim James Signature ES-335, a real tasty Walnut 335 with some unique touches. It was an awesome guitar and the response was electric, so much so that just a year later, the good guys at Epiphone have blessed us with the equally impressive Epiphone Jim James ES-335 in Seventies Walnut!
So what’s it all about and why do we love it? Read on friends and you’ll find out!
Starting with that killer Seventies Walnut finished body, the Jim James ES-335 has been crafted with layered Maple, a resonant and visually appealing, yet slightly cheaper alternative to full-fat solid Maple, this guitar retains all of that brash tonal charm that caught our ear on the USA model. Reminiscent of the delicious Walnut ES models from the ‘70s, we’ve seen players such as Ryan Adams, Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon and even Jim James himself wield!
The neck is Mahogany and features an Indian Laurel fingerboard, the colouring is spot on and this thing looks every bit the real deal. The Custom Jim James SlimTaper C profile feels great and allows you to deliver both those big rock power chords and slick country influenced lead lines that James’ is so well known for.
Under the hood you’ll find the usual high standard of Epiphone hardware and pickups. LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece, Kluson Waffleback vintage style tuners and a duo of Alnico Classic Pro humbuckers with CTS pots and Orange Drop capacitors, it’s a powerhouse and man do you feel it when you plug it in!
Complete with a hardshell case, this package also features a few really cool personal touches, such as the custom Jim James truss rod cover and the signature Owl decal on the back of the headstock and on the case.
Whether you’re a fan of his music or not, it’s hard to overlook this guitar! Serious spec, incredible playability and a ton of vintage ‘70s flavoured mojo, it’s a winner for sure!
